They don't have them in stores yet unless you get a new imac and it's taking forever for my order to ship from the apple store. Is there a new apple keyboard shortage?

I ordered my UK keyboard midday on Monday from the UK online store, it arrived today.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I'm also waiting for Apple stores to get stock in. The original 3-5 on the bluetooth variant is now 4-6 weeks. Awfully frustrating...

I finally ordered one through the online apple store. The salesmen were virtually clueless at my local apple. They told me that apple isn't releasing the keyboard for sale until mid/late September. They stuck to their guns even after I told them that it was showing 3-5 days availability at the online apple store. The wired one, the wireless does have that waiting period - I also told them that I wanted the wired kind but they still said middle/late september.

I didn't want to argue with them so I just ordered online.

The Mac Specialists often have no idea when stuff will come in, unless they have been specifically told something which corporate rarely does.

Totally understandable. Some of the ones at my old store were like that too. Don't take it personally; specialists come across that way and don't really mean it.

Also, when you get 1000 calls asking about inventory, it gets repetitious.

@OP: Any other updates on keyboards?

I got one today.

I called my local Apple stores for 5 days after the announcement, and they never had them. I ended up ordering online. Today, I checked my local Apple store (UTC San Diego) and they had about 5 wired versions in stock. I grabbed one, and used an iMac on the way out to cancel my online order (it hadn't shipped yet). So far so good.. the box for this thing is only 1" thick... very impressive. There is definitely a shortage, because my online order had been doing nothing for a week.

I was in the New York City in the last couple days. The 5th Ave. Apple Store had plenty of new wired keyboards in stock, so I went ahead and bought one. The sales tax in NYC is lower than Seattle. However, I didn't check the availability in the Seattle area.
