UGH!
I went on a PureTunes spree this weekend, and a long running iTunes bug is now driving me crazy.
What happens is when I play a song, the id3 tag reverts to how it was when it was first entered into the library. Since I have specific ways to name/catagorize this is very irritating as I have to enter everything again.
This has happened for a while, but now its getting ridiculous.
Why does it auto rename the files?

I don't know why it does that, but I have the same problem... Go figure. Hope they fix it quickly though. Soz for the zero value of this post, but it's just so you'd know you're not the only one getting this.

Are you sure you didn't tell it to? In the preferences, under advance, there is a checkbox that tell iTunes to keep your music folder organized. You probably have it checked. Uncheck it.

Is this really the problem? I like using that option, it keeps the folders organized...

That shouldn't cause what you have described. I think that some MP3s for some reason have this problem. It's only happened to me with one album, but no matter what I did it wouldn't let me change the tags permenantly. I had to finally use a different program (and ID3 tag editor) to change the tags and then put it back in the library. That worked.

Okay, so maybe MP3Rage will come in handy.
Also, it hasn't been happening as much in the past couple hours. Its still annoying when it happens though!

I've had that happen when the song has an older ID3 version. Select your whole library and convert the tags to the latest version (2.4) and hopefully that will help...

I actually tried that, but didn't have any luck with the songs I mentioned above. It was rather bizarre.

If the songs are not editable by you - for example, if they were added by a different user - you could have this problem.

This appeared in iTunes 4.0.1, right?
It has happened a lot for me in the last days and is driving me bananas. Only way to fix it is to use MP3Rage and do some changes and then re-add them in iTunes
