I've been playing around with AIM for OS X and one of my Windows using friends complained that their was no way to have more than two logins on the mac (iChat and AIM) without using a "dumb" program. (I let his use proteus)
Well I spent about 20 minutes and found out the exact thing needed to trick AIM into letting me launch multiple instances.

Would anyone out there be interested in something like this? (I also need to talk to bluebomber about using his ad-killer in it also)

I already have a version written in AppleScript studio but it has problems (it runs 10 times before it needs to have a fixing.) but fixing it would take insignificant effort (a late night is all)

Would this just be for AIM or for iChat also? No matter what it's for i'm interested. I hate running both AIM and iChat..

Send me a PM or an email if there is anything i can do to help.

I cannot write it for iChat, it is too deeply ingrained in the system and is split among too many separate programs. now with that said, if I DO happen to wander across a way to launch a bunch of them, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Take a look at adium 2, available at http://adium.sourceforge.net. It's still in alpha version, but it is mostly bug free, and I use it as my main AIM client currently (I'm a very active AIM user).

Most of the AIM Features are available in Adium. The following are not: chats, buddy icons, file transfers. However, to transfer a file with a friend, I just open up AIM or iChat temporarily.

Adium has a lot of very well implemented features including a highly customizable buddy list, tabbed browsing, alerts, customizable dock notifications (number of times to bounce, when to bounce, display the s/n in the dock, etc).

Hope this helps!

Adium 2 is using oscar right now. I've seen builds with buddy icons, file transfer is very possible.

Oh yeah, and you can also join chats right now (but not create them I think). This is temporary of course.
