In the past I have found places where people actually uploaded stand alone, non-streaming files of past MWs and WWDCs keynotes.

I know it it is stream right now as we speak.

But anybody have any ideas where I can find a stand alone, downloadable version.

And yes I know Apple does not approve of these files, but I want to burn a dvd of it for a pc friend who refuses to install QT on his computer.

The last few Keynotes, Apple's been using RTSP streams, which are difficult to capture and near-impossible to just simply download. So the likeliest way to get a standalone version is for someone who recorded it off of the C-Band satellite broadcast to digitize it to MPEG-4 and host it for the rest of us.

Ahh, someone beat me to the obligitory 'download keynote' thread for WWDC.

Actually, all of the keynote and special event webcasts have been RTSP streams. This diference of late is that there have not been parallel HTTP downloads available.

The HTTP downloads may still be available, but it's become MUCH harder to decipher the correct URLs to download the files from the Akamai servers.

Anyone else have any luck?

I got the ref movie, and it redirects to an .sdp file. The .sdp file is simply text.

Can anyone make heads or tails of this:

This link only downlaods the reference movie (about 660 bytes). Not the full keynote video.

I use to collect http versions of the speeches (not the streaming or reference files) but the actual huge mov files of them. It has been about a year since I have been able to get one.

I would love to get a real mov version of this wwdc. I would love to burn it to dvd for some of my pc friends. and yes, they are friends, but just not dear friends.

That link has a "< br / >" in it; which may be affecting StreamBoxVCR (I assume it isn't supposed to be there).

Only we can do is:

_Capture it with Snapz Pro.
_Save as movie file.

I tried this but I couldn't capture the entire keynote, dunnno why.

Then, I tried to capture separately, like 10min + 10min + 10min... this works for me.

But I didn't capture the entire keynote yet b/c I don't have enough time and disk space now.

Does anyone want to try this?

No, please try this!

BTW, why don't Apple sell their keynote address? If they sell it, I'll buy it, seriously.

Why doesn't Apple hand out for one month after each Steve keynote a version on DVD at each CompUSA/Best Buy/Apple Store.

Steve is the best person at selling Macs.

Most pc people don't even know that Steve gives keynotes.

If pc people don't see his keynotes, they will never hear him give the best sells pitch out there.

Give his speechs away on DVD to pc people like AOL give away install CDs.

Flood the world with his speechs.

Not only that but in Speech class in school they should teach by using his keynotes. Jobs is probably one of the most dynamic and charismatic speakers out there. No matter how bit the RDF is you must admit that he is both of those and would make for one great lesson in speech class. Hell I bet Jobs could sell an icebox to an eskimo.

You need to update your 3ivx component. It hoses mpeg4 streams. Either get the new (D4 4.0.4) component or remove the old while you watch the keynote. Cheers...

Oh, and does anyone have a link to a .torrent for the keynote? Googling for a while turned up plenty of Panther links, but no keynote...

Ya; it's probably Panther itself, not they keynote. But -- if someone has a .torrent for the keynote, link it here, by all means!

I would love to download your copy.

Any idea where/how you will make it availble.

maybe break into pieces and put it on a.b.m?

hope the quality is high enough to burn a dvd.

still wish some sneaky person can find the original apple .mov version.

Would you guys seriously sit through the whole speech again?? I would think that after the first time it would lose its appeal! Plus, these PC 'friends' of yours are too stubborn even to install QT; what makes you think they'd want to sit through an hour and a half of Apple propaganda?

Just wondering

Since I was the one who started this thread.

I do have two pc friends I have in mind I wanted to watch this keynote.

In the past I was able to find the actuall huge .mov of the keynotes.

but now I can't.

So, yes, I do plan on putting it on a DVD for them to watch on tv rather than on thier computers.

And, yes, I do think they will enjoy it.

Steve Jobs can be quite hypnotic to watch.

people be reasonable. just take the MPEG4 (less than 700MB preferably) or MPEG1 and put it on a VCD or use video out to get it on TV. it seems kinda rediculious to host a 1.5+hour MPEG2 video let alone have a connection that can handle several mac-fanatics (like myself ) downloading it at the same time. be glad someone has offered. i recommend an MPEG4 file (320*240) and no more than 600-700MB in size.

Then if you want to burn DVDs/VCDs/whatever, encode the video urself. This way everyone gets a good quality vid thats reasonable in size and can do whatever they want with it.

Cheers.

Taped it from the satellite feed when it was being broadcast. Taking the VHS (yuk) and bringing it into DV, then taking the DV and compressing it to MP4.

I haven't done the digitizing yet. I'm working on it. I will have to do it in pieces as I don't have the hard drive space to take all 2 hours into DV in one shot. I wish I had an empty 120 gig available. I tried using Quicktime broadcaster to take it right to mp4 format but it's looking like crap so I don't want to go with that.

I'll let you all know when I'm done.

For the guy who wants a DVD, e-mail me (xeo -at- mac -dot- com). Maybe we can work something out while I have the DV around.

Damn, I just grabbed it into DV and found out that the tape ran out before it finished. I didn't know this until just now since I had to go back to work that day before the keynote finished. I left the tape recording but I guess 2 hours didn't cut it.

It stopped part way through the "G5 intro" video that you can download from Apple's website. It cut during Peebler's talk about how stunning it is. I can cut just before Catmull's talk. It seems like a good ending. Or, I can cut before the G5 intro video all together, I'm not sure where the best place is. I'm downloading the G5 intro video again just to see how much got cut off. [edit: downloaded and now I see I lost the last 1/3 of that. I might be able to use the one I downloaded in place of the one on the keynote so it actually finishes that video.]

Could someone please tell me if there is anything after that part that I missed?

(The part that bothers me most is that I started recording when the video feed started coming down so I have about 10 minutes of "looking at the crowd" before the keynote actually starts. If I had known it would go longer than 2 hours I would have started taping closer to the actual keynote.)
