I would love to see a widget that could function like Remote Remote.
"Remote Remote is an application that can control iTunes across a network. Make sure you enable Remote Apple Events in the Sharing Preferences on the target computer."

QTZ file container widget!

Now that you can do neat motion graphics without coding (and for free) in Tiger, it'd be great to use a Quartz Composer file to pick up stuff from the web (RSS etc. input) and to display that as a Widget.

Ebay tracker. I know, using dashboard, it would not be useful for end of auction alerts, it would be helpful none-the less. Also, as there is a app out there (liberator or something?) that allows the use of widgets outside of dashboard, it could be useful there as well.

I'd also like to see a konfabulator translator. Possible? Allows you to open konfabulator widgets in dashboard?

R2ToDo ver 1.0f

I've made the widget faster, more reliable, scrolling, uses less room, priority bars are one color (not many)... and it provides some status/debug info for the curious.

Two widgets I think would be extremely useful:

1) an iClip-type widget that would allow me to store numerous text/graphic/URL items in its own cell. Related groups of cells (for example, separate research notes on NASA) could have its own clipping set title (for example, NASA). You could easily move this information in and out of documents in which you're currently working.

2) Widget Finder -- this handy little device would search the 'net looking for new widgets, then present a list of widgets and their descriptions. Clicking on a list item would take you to the site with the widget you want to download.

I know that Google is great but I think that Dogpile (dogpile.com) is way better (you should really try it). It's a metasearch engine. You can search Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, soon MSN as well and a few others. I would like a Dogpile widget. That would be awesome.

How about a Marathon widget.

Being the bad influence that I am, here are my widget ideas.

A webcam widget that shows free ameture porn webcam streams. Oh ya baby!!!

A picture widget like the flicker one, but you can choose you choice of porn type, for example just this or just that type.

A little fun to break up your work day.

AS someone said earlier in the topic a virtual animated pet would be fun (maybe the Apple cowdog) i remember seeing a few decades ago (on windows 3) some animated dog screensaver who would poop on the screen and dig in files ect...it was funny and i think it was quite popular at the time does anyone knows or remembers the name of such screensaver??

The other thing i'd like to see is a small duration countdown timer.
I've come up with a rendition of what i'd like it to look like so if anybody feels like coding a countdown timer feel free to take my design

Kinyo,

I think the screensaver you're referring to was After Dark from Berkely Systems. It was the one with the flying toasters. One of its selectable modes was a dog walking around on the desktop, digging holes and sniffing things.

Why is the dashboard calculator better than the app one?

I don't have to wait for it to load on my G4/400 - it's there instantly, I use it
and get it out of the way. It's BRILLIANT.

No more waiting 80 bounces for a damn calculator app.

My most-needed widget is so simple/obvious that all the developers seem to be ignoring it: I need a somewhat large digital clock, very much like the one that comes standard with Konfabulator. Just hours, minutes, AM and PM, and big enough that you can read it easily from a few feet away. Of course it has to look slick too, but if it's as easy to re-skin as the Konfab clock that's fine.

I'm still running Konfab along with dashboard only to keep the clock on my desktop. I keep an eye on it all day long, and my directors generally like to be able to look over my shoulder and see what time it is, so I can't just get rid of it or use the menu bar. I'm hoping somebody will rescue me and my CPU cycles!

Does anyone remember a free little app by Panic for the old Mac OS called Linkpad? It was meant to be a holder for temporary bookmarks. I would love something like that for Dashboard. Also, as mentioned before, I would also love a clock- a simple yet versatile alarm clock, which I could set to wake me up at different times, depending on the day of the week, etc, with either an alarm sound, music or triggering some other event.

A thread notification/viewer widget would be great, also.

It's alright. TV Tracker looks cool, but the small viewing window is a major flaw. With Watson you could also search the schedule and click a button to add an iCal reminder for a show.

While some of these suggestions would be useful, a lot of them would be better served by normal applications. Especially ones you have to use on files or manipulate complex data with. Widgets seem much more suited to displaying data that changes from hour to hour—like weather and stocks—or for light tasks that don't require the usual controls, menus, and file interaction of normal apps. Edit: They're also good for quickly accessing or searching for data.

Think of it this way: widgets are mostly for looking at.

While nice, R2ToDo has a problem: iCal needs to be open for it to access data. So why is that better than just opening iCal?
My second input: I would want to create new toDo items directly from the widget! This would make it much more useful.

The widget "DoBeDo" does both things rather well, but is just plain ugly. Very sad that there is no way to merge both widgets into one.

Why not use ffmpegX? This isn't an effective use of Dashboard IMHO.

This is so true.

I REALLY miss Watson.

I need a Widget for NFL scores.

A better one for TV (TV Tracker needs search, a bigger field (or zoom) and some work on the look and feel).

None of the movie ones allow you to switch days.
