Why are you surprised that it beats that PC? Thats about the worst chip you can get in that class for photoshop

I know because I have it as a spare machine and it sucks real bad. A PIII 1Ghz might out do the thing in PS. Now if it was a P4 2.4C, then it would be a lot stronger for that era of PC. I did this test on a P4 3.0C and it finished in 77 seconds or 1:17.

Wow, did this test on a P4 3.0C and got 77 seconds. Thats nearly 40% faster than the G5 1.8 single. That means that the P4 at least for photoshop is per Mhz not much slower than the G5? Although this is only one filter so maybe this filter is heavily SSE optimized on the PC side.

Photoshop seems to be getting a little faster. Same test after tons of RAW images processing= 61 seconds flat.

I was bored, so I plotted up the best result for a variety of CPUs and speeds.

Very little differentiation between the different platforms at the same clockrate.

My poor old TiBook (last generation, 1GHz with 1 GB RAM) took a lovely 207.5 seconds (guess that's 3:45 minutes) to do this test. Gonna be fun to see what difference it makes to run the same test with my soon to be MacBook Pro 1.83 with 2 GB RAM... even through Rosetta.

Me too. It took 4 minutes and 8 seconds on my 867Mhz G4 12" pBook with 640Mb ram in CS2.

My Macbook 1.83 was ordered with 512Mb but I'll either buy a 512Mb stick or max it out with two 1Gb sticks. Apple charges too much for ram.

60 Seconds on a MacBook Pro 2.0GHz with 1GB Ram. I had Camino open with 8 tabs, Photoshop CS2, and Text Wrangler.

Aside from Photoshop taking a little bit of time to start, I've not encounterd any real issues that would prevent me from working in on the MacBook Pro.

OK, here's the test I've been waiting to do!

82.5 seconds on my spanking new MacBook Pro (1.83 Ghz with 2 GB RAM).

So even through Rosetta I am now experience an increase with more than the double. Way to go Apple!

Just cruizin thru forums as I'm on my quest for a workstation to deal with very large images (got a 54" solvent jet printer). Unfortunately, I'm pretty much stuck with a PC platform because of software I need. Don't want to throw away 13 years PC experience to learn Mac platform either. Pretty much got my mind made up on a Dual Opteron 265 (dual-core 1.8ghz) with WD raptors in raid with 4GB ram. If anyone knows of someone running a dual dual-core opteron system - I would be very interested in how it performs next to the Quad Macs.

Why are there no results yet? Maybe you need another serial number to get it to run in Windows even on the same machine. They need to work this out somehow.

or maybe nobody's tried it yet...give it time. judging on online sources it appears that photoshop is about 30-40% faster when native.

i still doubt this number.
