I bought a second hand beige g3. I love it , it works a treat except....
I have an old HP deskwriter 520 ( black and white printer) that is visible thru the chooser but every time i go to print I get an error "please check printer is switched on and connected properly" or something to that effect!
I have switched from the printer port to the phone/modem port, thinking one might be a bit dodgy...still no joy.
I rang the guy I bought it from and he said to "zap the PRAM", I'm not sure if I have done this correctly!
Any ideas?

you can "zap the PRAM" by pressing command-option-P-R during startup ...
Good Luck!

I'm not sure what version of the OS you are running, but try this. Look for an extension called "serial port arbitrator" and turn it off if you have it. That worked for me with a similar problem on a beige G3 I used to have.

Also, while you are zapping the pram, make sure you hold them long enough to hear the computer chime a few times (3 should be enough).
