To be a total nerd, I'd call that theme Knurled Alloy, myself.
Knurl - n. One of a series of small ridges or grooves on the surface or edge of a metal object, such as a thumbscrew, to aid in gripping.

Knurled Alloy sounds ok... =)
'Grippled' is not necessarily set in Alloy yet..
(hmmmm... that gives me an idea... a concrete theme) lol
I know this theme still has plenty of problems with it... but I figured I should get your opinions on it.
eg. It still has little black holes in parts of the background...
(that I haven't found the cause for yet)
This theme also shows up the inconsistancies of using a textured surface, (other than a purely horizontal one.)

That's interesting Zacs.
The open window in your snapshot does not show the background image.
Is that how it arrived?
(there should have been an image in the background of the open .dmg)

Beautiful! I may just have a brand new favorite theme! Especially when I paired it with those gorgeous World of Aqua Rev 2 drive and folder icons.

Thank U for the compliments guys....
I want to remind those that have downloaded the Theme... (I nearly said scheme. LOL)
...that this is only a beta version. It still needs quite a bit of tidying up yet.
I would be quite keen to recieve some constructive critisism and suggestions from the many people who have already downloaded it.
And I'd also love to hear from anyone who can figure out the answer to the little black strips that are appearing in the background behind some text.
Please bear with me while I try to get my head around what does or doesn't work well in osX themes.
I'm not sure yet whether X Themes or K Schemes are easier:
Schemes seemed to have very many more components...
however Themes have buttons broken up into the strangest little pieces...
and are forced to work within the limitations of what was needed for the Aqua interface.
Inconsistancy is one of the limitations of building a Theme.
(eg. one part of a window tiles, another part stretches. One button is chopped into 4 bits, another 9, 1, etc...)
I guess my biggest limitation is my own lack of knowledge in Themes...
whereas, towards the end, I was breathing Schemes =)
Yay!... a challenge. =)

I better put an invisible image on the .dmg =)

ok... now for a silly question.
How do I make this file invisible?
I just tried resetting the 'invisibilty finder flag' in FileBuddy, but it hasn't changed. I can still see it.

It'll be invisible next time you launch the Finder and mount the disk image.
Alternately, if you have Apple's free developer tools installed, you can use
/Developer/Tools/SetFile -a V /Volumes/YourVolume/YourImage.jpg
to make it invisible. Be aware that if you change the name of the volume or of the image, you'll need to set the image to be the background pic again.
This process is teh yucky, by the way. I wrote up a nice tutorial on how to do it once upon a time on these boards, but I can't find it now.

Nevermind. Not the fault of DT GAS. I think I messed up the "layo" resource trying to give myself a variation with grayscale control text with ThemePark. Oh, well.

Are you saying you still have Aqua Finder widgets in the Toolbar with DS GAS active in ShapeShifter?

smeger: thanks for the help so far =)
Invisibility sorted. (now if i could just get this 'Matter Transfer' going correctly.) lol
llee: I am working my way through the text colours as I work out what they do.
inactive window title bar text was too light... fixed.
Safari mouseovers and etched text also fixed.
The finder widgets haven't been done yet. In fact, I have only just spotted where there are hidden. =)
What is 'control text'?
Question: where do I find the colour that controls the Safari bookmark-bar mouse-over?
others that I know to do:
tabs,
some graphite menus...
Question:
Which of the these should be themed?
Appearance PrefPane
Application skins
BootPanel
Finder (yes... just found these)
Global Elements (yes)
Login Window
Menu Extras
Save Dialog
One of the negatives to this theme is the way the texture stretches in Carbon window title bar fills. Not sure of the best way to get around this... yet. =)
smeger: would it be possible to use separate resources for the carbon and cocoa windows?

I just noticed that this beta theme has appeared on the ResExcellence site.
That was a bit of a surprise... =)
http://www.resexcellence.com/themes/...gasbeta_lg.jpg
I don't mind it being there....
though my main reason for releasing it here was to get more input and help in weeding out the bugs that are still in it.

I'm trying out some new finder buttons.... tricky little blighters these. =)
This is about my forth attempt at them, and I think I will probably have another go or two yet.
At the moment, the Active Finder window has buttons that look like this:
and the Inactive Finder window has buttons that look like this:
There seems to be inconsistancy with the way all these buttons are treated by the Finder, So I think I'm going to have to change the inactive buttons so that they look more like the active buttons.
and maybe just have their symbols change between active / inactive.
any opinions?
thanks
=)

Your black lines might be caused by using a ppat pattern that has a size that isn't a multiple of 8. I think this has been the case in the past.

I wondered that myself.. A quick google search: http://video.jasonskidmore.com/downer.wmv
Not the best quality but I couldn't find it at all on P2P or other sites so..
EDIT: Hmm..that link doesn't work anymore. That's where I got it from.
Anyway, I'll host it on my SpyMac site. Linkage

If no one wanted an IE skin, why would there have been a request for a link to one just now...? And why do you feel the need to express your negative opinion, in such elegant prose no less, in essentially every thread in this forum? In short, dear Komisar...
We now return this thread to its regularly scheduled discussion.
By the way, Dragon T, I believe the object you're trying to edit there is the bevel button -- not the butted bevel button, just the bevel button. Good luck!

I tend to agree. Web design for it is a nightmare too, I had to do a whole IE windows variation for my site because I was asking too much of it I guess by using iframes and png graphics.

Oh, IE does suck. Believe me, I agree completely. I've got an entire bag of CSS tricks specially designed for working around IE's bad behavior. I was objecting to the tone, not to the particular opinion expressed.
Dragon T, haven't heard anything from you in a few days regarding this theme... how's development coming along?

I think there may be a problem with image 1 of pxm 3010 Sm Popup Button Text Fill. Certain text popup menu buttons in Safari seem to be a little off. That's the only place I see it, but I see it quite a bit. The included code displays it if for me when I put it into an html document which I then open in Safari. Great Theme! Thanks.
