I was wondering if the conclusions in this disscussion are the same with the new G5's? Do the Mobo's on the new G5's make better use of DDR500(PC4000)?

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...ghlight=pc4000

Really this is about getting value for your money.
@ crucial.com

2x 1GB DDR500(PC4000) = 446
8x 512MB DDR500(PC3200)=411

what kind of performance boost does the DDR500 theorectiacally give you over twice as much DDR400? Practically will the new G5 models be able to take full advantage of DDR500? Even if they can would it be better to go with more PC3200 memory?

On a side note does anyone know the make and model number of the 400GB HD that are now available?

Thanks!

Not worth the expense. Your PowerMac G5 will run your RAM at PC3200 3-3-3 speeds no matter what you put in.

Buy the 4GB of RAM and be happy.

The speed-up is minimal (in the pc world), usually (under best conditions and in synthetic benchmarks) it's 5 %, so barely above the measurement threshold.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Wow 3-3-3. So is it even worth it to get the Ballistix DDR400(PC3200) over the plain generic crucial memory?
