So, how much spam do you get ?
Do you use a catch-all for your own domain ?
What kind of spam filter are you using ?

Me personally, I was at about 75 spam per day in October, with 0.3% false negatives.
I dunno the false positives, since I didn't weed through almost 2,400 spam.

I use a catch-all on my domain, but SpamAssassin works wonders.

What's your experience ?

Not much here. Maybe 10 or so every month. I just use mail's built-in spam filter.

I've had a lot of stock spam (with GIFs) lately.

Has anyone tried FuzzyOcr - Trac yet ?
I might give it a try.

I get up to 7500 per month. Mostly to my work email account (which I've had for 15 years). I wasn't dilligent enough way back in the early 90's and posted to newsgroups using that account. I would wager every spam email list on the planet has that account. And my employer refuses to change it. Junk mail filters get most of the spam, so it's not that big of an inconvenience.

I put a couple per month, but if I wanted it could be 0. The only "spam" I get are newsletters from software companies that I don't care about anymore that I just need to unsubscribe from/block. I love macosx.com's mail filters. Life is good.

I get sent about 80 per month, but I get 0 in my inbox, because the spam has to first go through Gmail’s filter, and then Mail’s filter.

I get a bunch, mostly from poor lists that manage to get me THE SAME IDIOT SPAM three or four times in a row, or the same subject from three or four different fake senders.

I'm always amazed at how concerned people are about my breast size-yes I get spam for that as well as penis size enhancers. Those are STUPID! They are worded very negatively, even the subject lines ("Tired of your tiny penis?"), and you wonder how they think such crap will be received.

I have a bunch of different spam filters, but I still have to go through the rejects because I do get false positives more often than I'd like-some of the filters seem to "forget" allowed senders, and sometimes senders change their mailing scheme or server so they don't fit the rules anymore.

Used to be eleventy billion, but since I moved my backup MX off my ISP's generic server and onto one under my control, zero. Nada. Zilch.

That's with rDNS lookups, sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org lookups and a single filter which tells anyone using "The Bat!" client to go away, if anyone's interested.

I receive a few hundred per month, but only 1 or 2 per month sneak through the Apple Mail built-in spam filter.

A question regarding the poll. If I don't see them, did I ever really get them?

Ah! My roommates and I are getting a ton of those! Apparently ISU sells our email addresses to places like property management companies and such. But I forward all of my school mail through Gmail and then to Mail anyway, so I don't see any of it.

I get about 3-4 per day n one account, and none make it through the GMail filter on the other. I used to get a lot more on my old addresses. I just gave it the boot and told people about it.

Anyone remember like 10 years ago? Spam? I like it fried, I would have said.

Up to 10 per day. This includes the spam that Gmail filters out. Every couple of days, one squeaks through to my inbox.

I agree with DuckRacer1. Gmail has been great at filtering out spam for me. Still, I'm seeing a huge increase in spam into my spam box lately. Whereas I would get 5-7 spam per day before, now I get 20-30. I try to be very careful about which place to give out my email address to and I do have 3 accounts, 1 for business 1 for personal and 1 for junk mail. The spam folks have gotten very advanced I'm guessing.

No worries.

.Mac seems to do a very good job of getting rid of spam, as does gmail. I basically never get spam in my inbox.

I'm on a trial period on .Mac and it's giving me way too many false positives - so much so that I'll not be bothering to buy a full account.

.Mac - I haven't even bothered to set Mail up to go fetch from that account yet (since it's just a trial account).

Because I sent it.

(and no, the servers sent from aren't in any spam databases and the wording of the test messages wasn't even approaching spam)

I own a domain name, so I get a lot. My host does not have a user freindly filter, so I end up with most of the crap. It use to be worse, it's calmed down to less than a 100/day lately. My Entorage filters help some so I only have to see maybe 50/day, the rest get filtered out.

I've been using Entourage for several years. There was several features that it had years ago that Mail didn't have. I don't know what the latest version of Mail is like.

Spam filters get most of the spam, but every other day or so one makes it through. + Sometimes the subjects and senders have the most ridiculous names and spellings, it's almost amusing.

Maybe I misunderstand, but are you saying that you have to manually filter out about 50 spam every day

Dude, just dump Entourage. Mail is much better than that.

Or, alternatively, get Spam Sieve.

My 'spam' account gets a lot. Around 100 a day.
My 'proper' account gets maybe 1 or 2 a day.
Gmail stops around 99% of these from getting through to either account.

Spam sucks.

There are 3056 messages in my Gmail junk mail folder, which keeps 30 days worth. I probably get a couple in my mailbox every day. No big deal.

I've had the same email since the mid 90's, so I'm on every spammers email list. Thank goodness there is the gmail spam filter, it catches most everything that comes my way.

I fall into the 3 or so a day category. I really don't have much of a problem. I've been careful about my Email address. I set up a yahoo Email account just so I could use it when filling out forms in web-sites. I think it has about 3,000 Emails right now.

Ironically after saying that Gmail stops most of my mail, this morning I wake up to my blackberry downloading 18 emails from my gmail account. All of them spam.

It seems to have stopped now, but this morning loads of spam made it through the Gmail filter. I've been reporting each one as spam.

I just hit an average of 300 per day this week.

The main reasons are an account I've kept from 1994, and a domain where I get anything sent to any name. (I should fix that, yeah.) An annoyingly increasing amount seems to be in Chinese, so I don't even know what I'm missing out on.

However, my servers tag most of the spam and Mail then does the rest. I typically get 1 or 2 spam mails in my Inbox daily and haven't gotten a false positive in months, so it doesn't really bother me.

My .mac account fluctuates - the last few days it has been 3 or 4 per day but every once in a while the filters get cracked and it goes up to maybe 10 a day, then after a few days it goes back down again. I see about 7-8 per day hitting my gmail spam folder but I've never had one make it to my inbox and only noticed one false positive.

They really ought to get tough on the spammers. I know I know - it's not so simple to prosecute when they are in different countries yada yada yada. It seems that this whole issue has been almost forgotten now, or that they've just somewhat given up on it. Like the "Can-Spam" Act - maybe they ought to take a look at that now that it has been a few years and ask themselves if it really did any good - which it hasn't....then toughen it up *a lot*

So, sorry for the zombie bump, but I fell that this thread is still useful.

It's about a year later, and my daily spam collection has doubled.
I'm between 130 and 190 spam / day , compared to about 75 / day in Oct last year.

Yes, most of it gets caught with Spamassassin, I have less than 0.001% false positives, so really no big deal.

So, anyone else noticed that increase ?

I finally got rid of my old work email address. At it's peak I was getting over 10,000 spam messages a month. I'm now down to 2 or 3 per day!

Yes, changing email address is one way.

But not an option for me, as I have my [email protected].
