So, has anyone found a fix for this?
A search of the forums turned up a couple of threads, but the last one that I found was in April- I can't believe that nothing's been done.
This is very irritating; it happens on both my G4 800 and my iBook 800.
I turned off the EQ completely, which helped somewhat, but didn't completely solve the problem.
Thanks for any info,
Ken

Make sure you uncheck "sound enhancer" on the preferences pane!

Make sure you uncheck "sound enhancer" on the preferences pane! Also make sure you're using 4.0.1.

I have noticed the same thing. And yes, this is with 4.01 and the sound enhancer off. iTunes can be a major bummer sometimes.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

Sound Enhancer is turned off; the EQ is turned off, and it is 4.0.1.
I don't remember having this problem in 3.0.
Not all of the rips exhibit this behavior- I particularly noticed it on Bruce Springsteen's latest CD.
Would anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help,
Ken

Check that the CDs you ripped the music from haven't got any sort of copy protection on them. That can cause all sorts of weird things.

Music in iTunes 4.0.1 often cuts out on me (well not that often). I think it may only happen in aac files but I am not sure. I'm as up for a solution as anyone else though.
A history: Powerbook 15" 1.5 Ghz, Quickilver 1.2MP, iBook 600 DVD, Beige G3 266, Performa 638CD, Quadra 610 w/CD

I just got a new G5 and now my iTunes cuts in and out too. The curious thing is that on my old machine B&W G3 I NEVER had anything like this happen. Now, every song seems to skip or just stop and then start.

Interestingly, it seems to get worst if I scroll or move windows around.

Is this the same thing that is happening to you guys?

Thanks.

I'm running 10.2.8, but it started way before I did the upgrade.
Really, I think that it has something to do with iTunes 4.
Thanks,
Ken

Yea, I am running v10.2.8, but I was on my B&W as well. Although it has only been out for a short time I don't think it has anything to do with it.....

I also get the songs cutting out for about 5 sec for no particular reason. Sometimes I'm not even at the machine and nothing else is running. I'm running 10.2.8 (hmm panther 70 on education licence...dribble ) iTunes 4.0.1, this didn't happen in iTunes 3, well for me at least. It always happens with mp3 files as I don't have any AAC.

I've got Sound Enhancer on, but the EQ off. Would library size make difference? I've got 26gb whilst this isn't a jaw dropping amount I wondered if it'd effect it?

I don't think your Library size is causing this. I use an ibook/500 with an external 120GB HD completely filled with MP3s and I have never had any problems like those you describe.
