Does my soon to be purchased (current production) mini use 204 or 240 pin ecc or non-ecc type memory? I'm trying to decide whether i should just buy the 4gb unit instead since the price difference is $190 on amazon and newegg prices for what i think is the correct memory is about $100 for 4gb in pairs.

thanks in advance

204-pin SO-DIMMs.

$100's about right.

You can get a pair of 2GB DDR3 SO-DIMMs for $80 shipped at Newegg. Even brand name memory won't cost more than $83.

Now the 4GB modules just need to come down. I just a 2x2GB upgrade and a 500 GB scorpio blue HDD all for a good price, but the 4GB modules are pricey (all around I imagine, regardless of store).

So true. The cheapest you can get at Newegg now is $191 shipped. That is 1333 MHz memory though.

That's what I did too. This was one of the rare times I thought the higher end Mac was actually worth the extra money. If 3rd party RAM was currently cheaper, I would have gone low-end.

Apple's mark-up for 4 GB on the Mac mini is $100, IOW reasonable. So buying from them isn't a bad decision. And if you can make use of the extra CPU clock or HD space, the high-end model is certainly an excellent deal.
