I was thinking about bringing this thread back as well just because I finished Escaflowne. Wow!! That was a really great anime. I don't really like the mecha style but in Escaflowne it doesn't weigh down the story or anything.

But OwlBoy, I would seriously recommend either that or Love Hina. Some people above said Love Hina is kinda girly. They're full of BS. Just because it deals with love doesn't mean it's girly you guys! It's absolutely hilarious. DBZ was the hook for me, and Love Hina the line and sinker.

Well, I just finished getting ahold of some new stuff, so I guess I can make some additional recommendations.

I rather liked Full Metal Panic! since the high school comedy segments kind of leavened the serious military drama. But it did skirt too close at times. It isn't stellar, but is worth a go. Spirited Away was really lovely. Weird as all get out, but good nevertheless. A buddy of mine tells me that Raxephon is very good, but so far it just seems like yet another Evangelion knock-off to me. Supposedly it gets better later on, and I've given that advice myself with Escaflowne so I'm neutral on it at the moment. What's really good though, is Abenobashi Maho Shotengai, the latest Gainax series AFAIK. The episode 3 send up of the sci-fi / mecha / sentai genres alone is worth the watching. But behind all of the comedy in the episodes about Arumi and Sashi (the main characters) there seems to be a pretty neat story. Not that I'm complaining; I liked FLCL and Otaku no Video as well. Lastly, there's Azumanga Daiou which is also weird and funny. At first it seems to be fairly pedestrian -- it follows a group of female students and a couple teachers at a high school, and there's comparatively little going on out of the ordinary. No martial arts, no aliens, no ghosts. It's not up at the top of my list. But it is worth a try. If for nothing else than for the truly bizzare dream sequences, and the creepy Kimura-sensei.

I really need to sit down and start watching Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu at some point in the near future as well. I've got it, just haven't had the time. The opening theme is catchy though; it has a good beat, and I can dance to it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Love Hina is every bit as girly as people say it is, no bull. That doesn't mean it's not a good story though. I watched the whole series, including the specials and even the Love Hina Again episodes, so I'm not dissing it when I say it's girly. I would even recommend it, but imo there are other series more worthy of recommendation. Since you enjoyed it so much, you should watch Ah! My Goddess. It has the same sort of appeal as LH.

Thanks for the link I'll check it out I only have 3 cels, 2 Ryoko and a Washu, there just to darn expensive.

P.S. Please post the other Ryoko, and especially the Washu .

God, that's the perfect name for it! The Lesbian Luge!

I was a little confused at the end though. Did they defeat whatsisname? And if so, did they actually get OUT of the little school-world into the Outside, or do they die? (I assume that the "Prince" that Utena is trying to be is more like "noble" as that involves no surgery)

(actually - as of 2002, it's impossible for a woman to become a man. Maybe in 2100 or whenever Utena is set. The surgery from man to woman is horribly primitive - basically, remove the male-specfic parts and carve a hole in the appropriate spot, then allow skin to grow on the inner surface of the whole. The new woman seems to have had a complete removal of her reporductive tract for whatever reasons- cancer for instance. The new woman must undergo intensive hormone therapy for a while, then lesser hormones for the rest of her life in order to feel somewhat feminine.)
{ she'll never be, though - never mind that his bones won't grow to be like a woman's, his face will be imrproperly shaped, and his vocal cords won't shorten without surgery..... the problem is that her braiin is a man's. There are IMPORTANT differences between the brain structures of a man and a woman. And since this new woman grew up as a male, there's no getting around it.}

Lesbian Luge. Definitely a cool scene - never mind the fact that they're naked.
