So, I'm cleaning the garage. We have a ton of stuff that people won't even bid on on eBay. It would be a shame to just dump it, but there's really no choice. The library won't take our books (no space), nobody wants VHS or laserdisc anymore, and bunch of other misc. crap. It's a tough call - do you just dump it? We did a garage sale and sold about half of it, but there's a whole other half we still have to deal with.

I know one guy who wants to have certain movies in EVERY format they've ever been released in, and he's always searching for a laserdisc or VHS or Beta version of some weird movie. You could certainly be surprised...

I have done this in real life. I Put a cheap dining room set out on the curb with a "free" sign on it on a Saturday morning. At 4 in the afternoon, it was still there, so I changed the sign to $10.00. It was gone in 30 minutes. It's all about perception of value.

I put ALL my LDs up for sale a year ago except for a few box sets. None sold, including all the ones that aren't out on DVD or have things the DVD doesn't. Min. bid: $1.

here's a true story for you:

about a month or so ago i jumped in a cab back to the centre of manchester from a night out. [t'was the night of U2's manchester gig in the vertigo tour]. anyway, i get back to mine and the fare is £9,80. i give the taxi driver a tenner and jump out of the cab. he jumps out after me shouting "excuse me! excuse me!"
"oh no!" i think "how embarrassing. he's going to run after me to give me my 20p change"

the cabbie opens his boot and gets out a carrier bag "someone left these in the back of the cab" he says, handing me the bag. inside are two U2 T-shirts and two programmes. since neither me nor the missus are into U2, i'm about to throw the Tshirts in the bin when i get inside the house and then i think "what the hell. might as well stick them on ebay. maybe we'll make the taxi fare back"

anyway, i auction the items and....

one Tshirt and programme went for £33, while the other Tshirt and programme went for £66 - so £99 minus ebay and paypal fees. not a bad profit for a 20p tip!

When I have stuff that I want to get rid of, I usually take it over to my friend's house, and we do a huge bonfire at night, and put all kinds of stuff in it (non flammable - batteries, gas cans, lighters, grenades are flammable/explosive). Friday night we burned a door frame, old cabinet doors, 17 phone books, 15 issues of People magazine, an Eminem CD, a pillow, an entertainment center, various boxes, and 1 stuffed animal.

Or, you could just throw it away.

Was a 'weirdest item on eBay competition'

Contestants were...

1. Used Condom - Max bid £5
2. Used Tampon - Max bid £1.25
3. Worn Sock - Max bid £6
4. Used Toilet Paper - No Bids
5. Bag of sea air - No Bids

Needless to say the Used Sock won... but ALL of the items were taken off before they finished, it was just to see if anyone actually would search for things like Used Condom and then bid on them.

I don't think i've got the screenshots anymore, but I'll have a look for them.. it was a few years ago now - I'm more likely to have the emails confirming the listings actually.

The listens were all just a few lines of text... no images, or anything.

You'd be surprised how many questions I got from people about the used condom thogh... They were SCARY...

You could give it away. Some organizations will take items and try and repair them. Goodwill or if there's an ARC (don't know if the name is still the same but it used to be the Association of Retarded Citizens). They'd often take items and let some of the people work on them to learn new skills. Then if an item was repaired, their store would sell it at a Goodwill-like price). Helping others if you can't make money for yourself).
