Headline should read: Women refuses to drive car, can't get stuff her face full at McDonald's from her horse-drawn carriage.

Oooh, elitism! Yippee!

You should talk to a friend of mine - he actually looks down at me because I buy frozen veggies.

That said, I've ordered food at McDonalds on a bicycle before and they didn't seem hugely surprised as I pedaled through.

A single horse can have up to 45 hp, IIRC.

How utterly silly.

They think denying a horse its carrot sticks will make it less of a danger to their other clients? Naïve fools!

Horse play: Ms Murden with her friend Kim Phelan. Diners watched on in amazement as she manoeuvred the huge stallion to a KFC window and placed her order
Erm … unless Ms Murden’s about four feet tall, that’s not a “huge stallion”, it’s a perfectly regular-sized one.

To be fair to McD's... ...all people in the UK riding single axle carts are usually bastards who you'd want to shoot in the face. So kudos to McD's for not doing that. Even though they wanted to. A lot.

That's no different than kilo watts.

I mean, what kind of animal is a watt, and where would you find one thousand of them ?

Looks like the horse is well-cared for and well-trained to put up with traffic, it deserves a carrot.

Judging by the big ol feet, I was going to say this was some kind of percheron (budweiser draft) mix and maybe the camera angles were playing up, but then wiki said the Cob is actually a smallish horse between a pony and full size. So either the newspaper got it wrong, or wiki did.

Wiki got it wrong. My Welsh cob's properly full-sized.

Neither, actually. Wikipedia has it right: a Welsh cob (Section D) must be at least 13.2 h.h. in height, with no upper limit. So it is, mostly at least (I’m not sure where the full-size limit is in the UK, but 13.2 h.h. is about 137 cm., which is nine cm. less than the full-size limit here in Denmark), a full-size breed.

Ms Murden’s stallion here, though, while quite likely full-size (again, unless Ms Murden herself is really tiny), is not huge.

About a 14 maybe? I'm going off the standard issue pie-gut on the bloke - they're all the same size here.

Especially considering that when it originated it was a measure of the number of two-horse teams! So a single horse would only be 1/2hp!

As far as the stallion being huge, I suspect that people who haven't spent a lot of time around horses consider anything larger than a standard poodle to be HUGE.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe they're just concerned about the hush money because of some safety regulation pertaining to horse hush money

I don't think you've noticed that the wagon comes *after* the horse, so the other car hoods are safe. As for the ground, they might even be using a catcher of some kind.

In England it is illegal for dogs to dump, and for it not be cleared up by the owner.

Yet it is perfectly legal for horses to dump their massive smelly loads, on the road, or wherever, and not be cleared up by the rider.

I know, living semi rural, I've asked !

Many vegetables start to lose their nutrients from the moment they are picked. So companies will flash-freeze them as soon as possible. If you eat flash-frozen veggies, they're probably better for you than your friend's "fresh" veggies.

Perhaps she's on to something. Maybe modern society should get back into using horses for travel. We wouldn't have $4/gal gas prices.
