I love Classic. Today I started it up on my PowerBook for the heck of it.

Who here still uses it and for what?

When will Apple discontinue Classic completely?

It sure brings back a lot of memories of my old PowerBook G3 "Kanga" model with the swappable bays. I used that PowerBook when I was working in Los Angeles for a studio...it was purchased for me by them in Santa Monica.

What is the oldest Mac that you still own and use?

I have an original G4 Cube.

I vaguely remember something called "Classic" back in v10.1...but, I can't recall any details on it since it promptly left (deleted) shortly afterwards and has never been needed since.

Naw, I don't have OS 9 installed. The only reason I had it on before was because of my ultra cool Pro Pinball game.

I found a replacement almost as good in OS X with the "MONSTER FAIR" pinball game.

I ran into an Indeo-encoded video the other day and had to watch it in the Classic QuickTime Player. Before that, the last time I used it was probably more than 6 months ago.

Haven't used, or even installed, classic for years now. No need, thank god. I am currently doing a job for a company that still has a couple of old G4s running 9. What a royal pain in the butt.

Still boot it occasionally for a quick Unreal Tournament network game. I think that original UT was and still is a best game in its range.

You can run UT in OSX. Here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12059

I haven't used the Classic mode for over two years now. I wonder if Intel switch will be the death of Classic.

My oldest Mac is my current desktop, a Power Mac G4 dual 450 that I purchased September 2000. It has been a very stable computer.

I hated Classic, and actually preferred Windows to it,but then I was in my late stages of Denial before switching when OS X came around. To borrow a phrase from a famous hamburger franchise, "I'm lov'in it".

At one place I wored with all Peecees, we played UT as a group. It was awesome. The entire art department was going crazy with this game at break and lunch... and when the boss went away....

Pulled us together as a team actually.

Yeah, its the only game I really liked to play, maybe Age of Empires, though. I hated UT 2003 and 2004. They made the dark unreal story of original UT into a some kind of cartoonish circus. The original story was good - death fights- it did not have that circus atmosphere of 2003. UT 2004 was a slight improvement (return to roots) but still lacked the tension and original look.

No doubt when 10.5 Leopard hits, it's bye-bye Classic. Good riddance.

What is the oldest Mac that you still own and use?

I have an original G4 Cube.
I am using a G4 1.7 GHz Cube with 120 GB hard drive. It's my secondary machine at work. However, I bought it last year, and don't have Classic installed on it (or any of my other Macs).

I still use classic every day for After Dark Games Solitaire. I never found another solitaire that has just the right combo of feel and features.

My kids use classic all the time for lots of their software. I have piles of reader rabbit and that kind of stuff. plus Otto Matic and other games. kids software is still an area in which the offerings in OSX are a bit thin on the ground. plus why upgrade Reader Rabbit anyway?

the kids are still using a G3 b&w (originally a 400?) that has an upgraded processor, vid card, additional hard drive, but it's finally grinding to a halt I think. the CD drive just went and it simply can't handle most new software. I think I'll fix it up and keep it for all the classic kids stuff tho. My keylime ibook is still working, altho that CD drive is iffy too.

I detest Classic. We still have to keep it around to deal with the years and years of Quark 4 documents we've made, and sometimes have to pull up, tweak, and re-send to pubs as new.

Thankfully new designs are being made in InDesign.

I have a Mac that is classic all the way to its core, and its running full time. Its a Mac Classic II and its the perfect screen saver clock. Everyone loves it. Its so retro and geeky. Best part is, it was only $5.

G4 Sawtooth still boots OS 9, and I have Classic on the G5. I used to use Classic/OS 9 sporadically, but since the move I have the G4 pretty much setup only as a PVR and video/music storage device.

Still have Photoshop 5.5 lying around with a zillion filters that will never be Carbonized, and a tonne of old games that will never be replaced either.

I have Photoshop 6, Dan Quail's Tetris, Castle Wolfenstein, and ClarisWorks 4.0 (which is the latest one with a functioning Publish and Subscribe) that all run in 9.2.2.
