As everyone knows, the just-released MacBook Pro unibody (2010) models not only have two graphics processors (just like all unibody models released beginning in October 2008), but they allow on-the-fly switching between graphics processors (indeed, automatic).

On earlier models, one has to log out at the very least -- very inconvenient. Am I wrong, or wasn't it announced that Snow Leopard would allow even the MacBook Pro unibody 2008 to switch on the fly between graphics processors?

That was never announced or promised AFAICR. I remember hoping though that we'd see it.

I may be misremembering. It was expected that OpenCL in Snow Leopard could make use of both graphics processors simultaneously.

AFAIK, OpenCL *does*. That doesn't speak for the rest of the system, though.

I don't think that was ever announced. I actually emailed Mr. Jobs to see if I'd get an answer, since the hardware is supposedly capable of doing it (it works under Windows). As an owner of said MacBook Pro, it'd certainly be nice.

It was never announced, merely assumed to be part of 10.6.

Like resolution-independence.

I meant "ever" not "never."
