Oh, I know. I was wondering, seeing as it's not yet officially "out there."

I'll revise my statement, they're what the media was calling the 390x (Fiji). But yeah, point taken, enough brute force can make nearly anything playable, no matter how many developer hurdles they have to clear.

Someone has had a pair of beta silicon testers in CF for a while now. Not that it's all rosy, because apparently the drivers have typical alpha headaches associated with them (and they have to regularly fill out time-consuming crash reports).

Nintendo’s first true online shooter—Splatoon—is a hot, painted mess | Ars Technica
If there's an online gaming trend, you can bet your ass Nintendo has shown up embarrassingly late to the party. Multiplayer modes, friend lists, in-game voice chat, downloadable games, bug fixes, DLC, even smartphone gaming—for nearly a decade, the company has been too busy catching up to lead or innovate in this space.

Such a track record puts a lot of pressure on Splatoon, Nintendo's first game to primarily focus on online multiplayer. (We wrote at length about that very issue earlier this month, but to wit: Nintendo hasn't launched a game with an online versus shooting mode in nine years.)
What's unfinished about the game? For starters, the map selection feels miniscule. Don't be fooled by Nintendo's promises of free add-on maps to come; the game has launched with a pitiful five maps.
The biggest omissions at this point are voice chat and workable friend modes. Eventually, Splatoon will allow friends to put together four-player teams and eight-player matches (no word on whether fewer than four friends will be able to party up and get into matchmaking). But for now if you'd like to join a friend in battle, you have to go through this ancient-sounding process: call a friend in real life and ask him/her to start a game. (Yes, on the goddamned phone.) The instant they do so, click their name in Splatoon's in-game friend list. If you get the timing right, you'll be paired in the same instance before the four-on-four teams are maxed out. If you're even luckier, you and your friend will join the same team. (Nope, you can't tell Splatoon whether you wanna team up or not.)
Players also can't use any form of communication before, during, or after fights, other than the criminally weak option to shout "yay" or "boo" during battle.

On Monday 1st June at 10am UK time there will be a significant server upgrade and Game Update 1.16 will be available at the same time. Full details follow...
The servers that provide Challenges in DRIVECLUB are being replaced and upgraded. This will bring bigger, better challenges and improve server performance across the game as we continue to work to make the PlayStation Plus Edition of DRIVECLUB possible.
After the update and new servers go live, your Challenges and Event History will start afresh, so please schedule your challenges to end before 10am UK time on Monday 1st June. You can continue to play and create Challenges before the update but please understand that any events that are still active during the update will not continue on the new servers.
Full details for Game Update 1.16 (coming Monday 1st June):
* Challenges will be expanded to support an unlimited number of participants.
* Challenge notifications will be integrated into the Social Hub activity feed for easy access.
* The Challenge Menu will have a new interface to make it easier to join Challenges.
* Evolution Studios Challenges will be added to the Challenge Menu for direct and easy access.
* Invitation options will be optimised to focus on active players and reduce challenge notification spam.
* More of our favourite ‪#‎PS4share‬ pictures created by the community will be added to the Menus.
* Significant technical improvements will be made to enhance server connectivity and prepare for the PlayStation Plus Edition.
It took them 234 days to finally upgrade the servers, like we knew they needed to all along.

Looks amazing, tons of things to do, combat can be a bit frustrating as it isn't easy.

I might, but am not yet for several reasons:

* It's summer. I'm barely making progress in PoE, since I don't game as much.
* Didn't finish Witcher 2, and since the story is the best thing about it, that feels like a waste
* That BS about nVidia Hairworks turned me off it - better to wait until they've patched it a bit

Steam and GoG usually have an end-of-summer sale. Sounds about the time to pick it up.

Because the launch was so badly botched that I figured it would be DOA and never resurrected. I especially thought this since it doesn't have the carry-over audience that a game like Battlefield 4 did.

I've got both Fallout 3 and New Vegas sitting on my PC, picked up for pennies during Steam sales. I tried to get Fallout 3 up and running with mods, but it turned out to be a lot more complicated than Skyrim's mod system. I wound up breaking something and deleting the game. Hopefully I'll eventually get to it.

What was it that made you prefer Fallout 3 over Skyrim? The setting more your style?

GMG is already trying to push a pre-order for Fallout 4 on me, and we don't have things like a release date or a price yet.

Am I the only one who thinks that they should come up with a sub-title, and not say Fallout 4? To me, New Vegas was the truest Fallout successor of them all.

I'm not sure I can even say that's true though since I think Skyrim is a much better game in nearly every possible way. I beat F3 a few times and saw nearly everything there was. I played the hell out of Skyrim and I didn't manage to beat any major storyline due to an overwhelming amount of side-tracking. Dense does not even come close to describing Skyrim.

F3 crashed a decent amount, didn't run very smoothly, the character animations were pretty bad, the manual gunplay was very janky, annoying constant greenish hue, etc.... Skyrim ran like butter, the visuals were downright beautiful, combat was greatly improved and the world was simply enormous. Start on a cave at the surface, 3 hours later you're at Blackreach in awe of the massive deep underground city while fighting steam-powered automatons.

I'm very excited for F4, cuz duh, but New Vegas suffered even worse frame rates, loading times, save corruptions, animations, glitches than F3 did. I hope F4 runs even better than Skyrim and has a fully-playable 3rd person mode, faster loading times would really be appreciated as well.

So to answer your question....because it has guns?

Honestly, I think "Fallout 4" makes sense. It's a different generation, engine, etc.

Having gone back through Skyrim on PC the past few months, it definitely came up short story-wise, and there wasn't a ton of life, but the size of the world mostly made up for it.

Fallout has an excellent backstory, so Bethesda's games can tap in to that and do what they do best on top of a world that already has all the hard worldbuilding done. The ES world is pretty dull, standard eighties roleplaying tropes of the "throw everything in" variety (Tolkien-style elves and orcs, of course, but also really powerful magic, and lots of vampires and other undead, and some japanese samurai, and vikings, and humanoid cats and lizards, and all of it is in a Rome-style empire, and...), so they have to work pretty hard at making a story all themselves. If you ignore the poor story and just treat it as a sandbox, it works fine, but Fallout has something more.

Despite having played Skyrim just after release, I wasn't familiar with the Elder Scrolls universe until just a few months ago, and I've got to say...it's the dumbest, most confusing thing I've ever read, and somehow there are still people that are fully invested in it.

Something about how the different worlds are actually a bunch of flat planets on several different planes, blah blah blah... How about just give me a big planet with continents — something that's actually comprehensible? Even their god histories are unnecessarily confusing. I'm really not sure who would write this crap.

I just realized what Planetside 2 reminds me of: an even larger scale MAG.

[EDIT] And this YouTube player actually says it right before the 4:00 mark on this video.

A committee.

Elder Scrolls:Arena - the first one - was supposed to be a game about fighting as gladiators in an Arena. It was a more adventure-y game at release, but it says something about where the story came from. They copy from EVERYTHING - it's like those tech specs with check marks that were so popular in the nineties, you win by not leaving a single box open in your column. The various planes of reality are cribbed from D&D. The world is not flat, per se - it is a planet with moons, but the Daedra each have parallel dimensions with different rules of physics.

Combine this with a desire to leave some stories mysterious to have something to talk about next time, and just not plain keeping things straight, and it is extremely confusing - and all of it is extremely derivative.

I'm not saying you won't be skilled. I've played the PC version. Everyone's dying all around, constantly. It's like Normandy Beach every match.

Is the player cap the same on PS4?

Having not payed much attention to ps2, describe it for me in one sentence. Besides being Normandy Beach.

The Fallout 4 announcement of course made me dive in to 3 and NV again. Are there any mods I should absolutely install?

Only played F3 on the PC once, and I didn't use any mods

I've found it a lot more difficult to install the mods for F3 than I did for Skyrim.

However, here are the must-haves (I'm told):

Arefu Expanded

DC Interiors Project

DC Moods

So far it's crashing nicely without any mods, so maybe I should fix that first before I start trying to mod it.

In my situation, it was as simple as updated GFWL.

There is a guide on Steam that I'm having trouble accessing from work, but the GFWL fix was Step 1 in a long process. The author said it might be all that's required to fix the issue — for me it was. There's also a quick link to said update.
