Which ones are "really good"? Maybe Steam has spoiled me, but $10 off a $60 game is nothing. Let me know when that $60 game is $2.97 and I'll think that's "really good".

You forgetting to factor in time. $10 of a $60 game that hasn't come out yet is pretty good.

On PC? Not really, no. I had an offer for $24 off on Batman: Arkham Knight before release. This was of course because of the obnoxious idea of charging $60 for the PC version in the first place, but even if they had charged the normal $50, that would have meant $14 off. Discounts in the 20-25% range are common if you do a little more searching than looking at the Steam front page on the day of release.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

They're all console games anyway. Bleh.

First off, he's talking about getting a game for $3, which I very much doubt is going to happen to a good AAA game in the first year or two of release.

Second, it'd be great for perspective to see what those games are priced on Steam right now.

I bought Bioshock: Infinite 7 months after launch for $13.59, currently $29.99.

I got Saint's Row IV 14 months after launch as part of a Humble Bundle that cost $12.50, currently $19.99.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist 6 months after launch with full DLC for $23.79, currently $39.99.

Sleeping Dogs 7 months after launch for $17.50, currently $29.99.

Max Payne Complete Pack (1, 2, 3, and all DLC) 11 months after launch of MP3 for $16.99, currently $34.99.

So not actually $3, I admit.

I don't know what that is. Those are just the recent AAA-ish titles I've purchased, so that's what I had data for.

Yeah big time, the matches are short and the learning curve isn't very steep. Once I got the physics of the ball down I was having a blast.

People have been going crazy for it. Is it $20?

(Just checked) Yep. $20. That's a bit too much for an impulse buy, especially when I know I won't have time, but it looks incredibly fun judging by the videos I've watched.

Oh, also: Bloodborne is too freaking hard.

Lightpack — ambient backlight for your displays by Woodenshark

I have this setup with a Raspberry pi, using a video capture device with the output of my receiver. Works for all my sources (Cable, Apple TV, PS4).

Love it.

Got Rocket League lastnight too, it is good fun. I may have set my car as the truck body with a red and blue flames paint job a bit like Optimus Prime.

I am such a child .

Anyway, did a bit of shopping in the Amazon Prime Day yesterday, Alien Isolation Nostromo Edition on XB1 and Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4. Not sure how far I'll get through Alien, I'll try to take some brave pills before playing it.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Interesting. What video capture device is that? I assume it is not capturing HDMI?

What accounts for it? The price drop?

I can't see anything else they've done making a difference.

PSN often being down and the massive data breach of cc info doesn't help Sony.

True, but they're still leading sales, if I read that right (and I'm too lazy to go back and check).

This is the first I'd heard of this, so it may be old news for you guys, but here goes...

Chrono Trigger is often regarded as having one of the best video game soundtracks. My personal favorite is "Mystery of the Forest." (YouTube link)

Little did I know, Wiz Khalifa is one of three different artists to sample it into a song, and it sounds amazing. I'm posting the instrumental here, as the full song features some NSFW lyrics, but if you're so inclined, you can listen to the full song here.

This has me curious as to how many classic game soundtracks could be used in the same way. There are some amazing songs out there.

Chrono Trigger rocks. Given the sequelitis at Square, I wonder why they didn't make any more sequels (there is one, the freaky Chrono Cross, but the shown Chrono Break appears to be MIA).

As for the PS4 vs Xbone thing... MS has been working very hard to make the two consoles appear equal, and for someone who has bought in to that, a sale with a good bundle is all it takes to trigger a sale. Those of us in the know have figured out that the PS4 is the stronger model, but if you're hooked on MS' exclusives, I can see why you might go for the Xbone, safe in the knowledge that the multiplats will run OK.

PSN doesn't make mainstream news and the cc breach was years ago – the public's memory isn't that good.

Rocket League gif, anyone?

I've been able to nail down my issue with the ball cam – when the ball goes high, you lose all perspective on the field ad therefore awareness of your surroundings. Given that there's a marker on the field to show you both where the ball is and when it'll land, it's stupid. I wish I could modify the ball cam to just use that once the ball goes over x height – turning off the ball cam isn't an ideal solution.

Spot-on. This is exacerbated by the extreme floatiness of the ball physics, but I'm not 100% sure the game won't lose some of its appeal if they scale it back.

I'm having a blast with it so far. I've finally settled in on a strategy that I don't see others use as often in online multiplayer — kind of a defensive midfielder role. I rarely go for balls in the opponents' corners, where most of the chaos seems to center.

I haven't played with any of you yet — what are your approaches?

Maybe. PSN going down for extended periods has happened multiple times though. My neighbor (anecdotal, I know) got rid of his for this specific reason.

Something that works for me on Rocket League probably more often than it should is to boost up to the ball off the line at the kick off, get first touch and score. Hitting the ball slightly off centre can put a bit of angle on it to make their defender car go the wrong way, jumping just before hitting it can stop it going too high in the air and above the goal. Record score so far is 10-3.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Rocket League dev walks back statements on 'aggressive' DLC plans | Polygon

DLC is fine, but I hope they stick to what they say and avoid the power ups for higher jumps, bigger boosters etc. As it says in the article, the balance of the game is pretty good as it is, don't ruin it.

Well, getting rid of it because of PSN problems and avoiding it because of PSN problems are two different things. Your neighbor got to see it firsthand and apparently the downsides were worse than whatever upsides he might have had.

Its the same thing with PS4 doing 1080p and X1 900p. Its nice to know, but most consumers don't know and those that do probably don't factor it in heavily.

I can't decide whether I like the system. It seems like 90%of the kick-offs turn into either a giant cluster**** or the ball just shooting in a random direction.

I did the training yesterday and boy does that help – though I had suspected a few of the tips already and was going to try them out in free mode.

The game really has some polar opposite players. Some are as friendly as a nintendo game, while others are as acrimonious as CoD at its worst. Mahonay and I had some guys talking shit the entire game (PC players, I assume from all the typing). They shut-up pretty well when we crushed them in the next two rematches.

Squenix has clarified the "timed exclusive" of the next Tomb Raider: Xbone version November 10th with a one year console exclusivity, so PS4 is November 2016. PC version is "early 2016", which works out nice, because by then I might have played enough of that other game launching November 10th.
