GoPro will soon be providing broadcasters a way to use its camera line during live television broadcasts, while consumers will gain some extra features on their own devices in a future firmware update. A
partnership with Vislink has produced a compact transmitter that can be connected to GoPro cameras, providing a live HD video feed from the action cameras.
Typically, GoPro cameras are used in production to provide unique viewpoints of special events, though previously it has only been suitable for inclusion in edited programs,
reports Variety. The new transmitter is said to be small enough to be wearable, which in theory could allow the same style of camera angles during live broadcasts. Currently, the transmitter system is being prepared for use during ESPN's Winter X Games 2015 coverage in Aspen, set to take place from January 22 to 25, with other live sporting events expected to use the technology as well.
GoPro Hero4 Black
A
firmware update set to take place in February will introduce some new functions to the
Hero4 Black and Silver. Both will include an automatic video rotation option, a burst mode taking up to 30 photos in six seconds, and a timelapse video mode that creates a video file automatically rather than creating a series of photos.
The Hero4 Black will also benefit from two new shooting modes. A 2.7K60 mode will capture video at 2.7K-resolution at 60 frames per second, while another high-frame-rate mode will record 720p video at 240fps. The Hero4 Silver will gain the ability to mark key moments during recording or video playback using the touch display, in order to ease any later editing or video sharing.
