So when did you guys place your orders? And have you checked to see if your new iPods are shipping from the US, or direct from China?

And congratulations, BTW!

My 60gb, black ipod shipped today from Shanghai. There is no delivery date on FedEx yet. I did pay for overnight shipping. What does that mean coming from China though? Any hints?

When you guys get yours, please post whether it supports audio recording at 44.1 KHz stereo with an external microphone out of the box, or whether we'll have to wait for an add-on from Griffin or Belkin.

What he said.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

Does anyone have updated shipment info? Mine has shipped, but there is no updated tracking information from FedEx. Anyone else in the same boat?

Apple store SOHO has Black 60s and white 30s in stock (though selling fast). I picked up a black 60 and just got home. Some initial observations:

1. Buy Apple stock now cause they are going to sell a boatload of these
2. The 30 is truly remarkable how thin it is.
3. Black looks way better than white
4. The screen is very nice and is recessed into the front of the iPod. Basically the front of the iPod is completely smooth except for the scroll wheel. I think there is some kind of clear protective plate over the whole front (except scroll wheel).
5. The software on the demo model was a little slow to load video and pics. Havent tried my own model yet.
6. Movies looked way better than I thought they would on the screen

I'll try to get some pics soon but I have the worlds worst camera and I am the worlds worst photographer.

How about the audio recording feature? Does it use a bi-directional headphone port, or does it require a third-party add-on? Is it mentioned in the manual or in any documentation?

I'm not going to shut up until someone answers this.

I GOT IT!!! I ordered ground delivery too!

Apple has got the golden egg here!!! The FedEx guy knew what it was. He asked me, "Is this the new iPod?" (funny thing is, nowhere on the box does it say Apple or iPod just the part number) I said yes and we talked about how he's got 15 similar boxes on his truck right now and how he's going to sell his 20gb iPod he got in Jan on eBay.

This thing is going to raise the stock up to $75 by Christmas.

I’m going to download all the U2 videos now.

Quick observations:

Black is beautiful.
The little carry pouch is a nice touch.
Why don’t they make black headphones for black iPods?
Packaging is as good as it’s gets – I’m a graphic designer and I would love to work for this company!

I placed two orders... one for an iPod Black 30GB
and the other for the Universal Dock and an Apple Remote.

The Apple Remote had the longest wait time, of November 2nd.
However, today it shipped! lol

Maybe I'll be the first to post pics of that!

Keep you posted.

Do you have audio recording ability? In Extras -> Voice Memos. Is the headphone jack bidirectional?

Just try Extras -> Voice Memo and see if you even have the option. If you do, see if it works with a microphone or something plugged into the headphone port.

Hey Charles, I have the Video 60g. No Voice Memo option in the extras. Maybe it needs a new piece of hardware?

Drat. Probably we'll have to wait for a new version of the iTalk or something. Grr...

Oh well, guess I have to delay my purchase a bit. I'm not buying this until I know I can make good recordings with it.

It doesn't work with powered microphones. It's also probably just a mono port, since it was designed for the 4G iPod.

I was suppose to get mine 2 days ago but Fed Ex sucks balls. Last night I go home on the already late delivery day only to find out they had rescheduled it to today, called them up and told them how they screw up every shipment that I am forced to use with them, they still refused to pay me back for the 3 days extra that it was late so I went off on the guy and said I wish UPS would just buy them out so they could acully do a good job and not hire idiots to run the company yada yada yada But I just got word it was delivered just now so I'm gonna post some pics on my site once I play with it a bit when I get home from work in an hour, if u wanna see check liquidityx.com in a few hours.

What has me stunned about these iPods is the removal of firewire to sync only USB. Why not Bluetooth?

Oops.

Amazon isn't shipping the 5G's yet. They do however have White 60GB iPod Photos in stock.

Bluetooth 2.0 isn't that slow is it? I am aware that it isn't as fast as USB 2.0, but being completely wireless and dockless would be *sweet*.

I'm not sure its even as fast as USB 1.1.

I just did a little quick googling, so I'm not going stand by these numbers 100% (and of course these are theoretical maximums, not what you would actually get in everyday use) but it seems that Bluetooth 2.0 gets around 3 mbps, USB 1.1 gets around 12 mbps, and USB 2.0 gets around 480mbps. So it would be about 1/160th the speed of USB 2.

It would work for streaming audio, but syncing would be a nightmare. Plus the whole "wireless" idea kind of falls down since you still have to plug it in to charge it anyway.
