You have probably heard of Gadget software. If not look here and here.

Well there is more to it than just Gadget Software aka Fan Software. There is also MacUnicorn.com which markets TurboMem now (apparently from Gadget/Fan software).

Let me just say that TurboMem is technically improbable on Mac OS 9 and technically impossible on Mac OS X. Its simply a REALBasic shell app that does no more than listing running processes and show a progress bar animation. This has been independently confirmed by other well known and respected Mac software developers such as listed here.

There is a third party now involved called MacNtosh.com. Apparently this group (or single individual) is trying to turn the tables on legitimate smaller developers who point out that their products are a fraud and are essentially scamming people into buying useless junk or apps that were stolen and repackaged as their own.

For some reason I got an email from this group/person threatening me with various forms of legal action and trying to point out that they (Fan/MacUnicorn/MacNtosh.com) are the helpless victims here.

Yeah right.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THE FOLLOWING WEB SITES:

1) Gadget/Fan software (duh)
2) MacUnicorn.com
3) MacNtosh.com

I repeat do NOT buy ANYTHING from these groups or individual(s). They are deliberately misleading you, committing fraud and who knows what else all to get easy money without actually doing any work for it.

They may be doing this from the US or from Europe or Asia - its very easy to get a US domain name with a false name. MacUnicorn.com is registered to a John Monemi and has a PO Box listed in the registration, either of which could be easily faked.

Now read the full unedited email I received (note how awful the writing is, as if the person does not speak English as their first language or is just a complete moron):

BTW, just a heads up. I have been in touch with some other business owners.
fansoftware.com, macntosh.com, and macunicorn.com were all attacked off and
on the last few years. To each of us individually, it felt like a small
developer was slandering us. Most of what we were being accused of was pure,
libel and slander. I'll admit that some of my old warning screens were
obnoxious ;-)

Anyway, through comparing notes, it looks like Mark Weston at
mrdataworks.com may have had something to do with the mass e-mailing calling
fansoftware.com's "Insecticide" antivirus a "hoax". Turns out the product
really works, but it bankrupted fan. Mark was selling VScan like hotcakes.
When confronted by numerous, respected people, he did this :
http://mrdataworks.com

I received the above second hand. However, I have had Mark cut and paste my
work into his (are you ready for this) "Modem Init String" generator. It was
wierd seeing his device generate every single line in my product (his
version 1.2. His version 1.1 had none of my stuff, his 1.2 had all,
literally all, of my stuff.

A lawyer named Kristin had to Cease and Desist him by phone, fax and e-mail.
He threatened my family. Said "he would be seeing all of us". Did this once
directly, then again a short time later I received another similar threat
anonymously.

Lastly, you should ask John Monemi at macunicorn.com what Mark has done to
him.

Look at this: http://versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=9678&db=mac

John thinks Mark and Damien Barrett are the same person. He can tell you
why. But the comments and slander at fansoftware.com, macntosh.com, and
macunicorn.com seem to all come from no more than 3 people.

One of which slings modem enhancing and antivirii software for Mac.

Don't take my word on any of the conjectural. I would this. The derogatory
comments posted at your site may be part of a crime. Are there similar pages
in your domain on fansoftware or macunicorn? If so, will you remove what
looks to be put there by Damien Barrett, Mark Weson, Mitchell Mullins?
Anything that looks like someone was intent on forming a Modem Software,
AntiVirus monopoly?

Currently, macunicorn, fansoftware and I are in the process of resureecting
ourselves from the damage done via Mark Weston/mrdataworks.com

We are not asking you to open yourself to a suit from Mr. Weston. We are
asking you to not allow a felony to occur within your domain via Damien
Barrett, Mitchel J. Mullins II, or Mark Weston.

John Monemi has some evidence that Damien Barrett and Mark Weston may be
either the same person, or coordinating efforts.

We are all into free speech. Some of my products worst flaws were fixed
via customers roasting me, a healthy process.

25 devleoper roasts, or even one fraud accusation by another developer is
libel and slander, a crime. I am speaking as a small group here, as John
Monemi and his employee have given me permission to represent them in this
regards. Please remove any and all fraud, hoax, bogus, gadget software, etc.
type references, as a big favor to us.

It might be interesting for you to inquire of what Mr. Weston has to say
about the similarities in the 3 attacks on his competitors.

Please do not use my name and e-mail, as I do have a wife and son to
protect. Please recognize that this is not an anonymous accusation sent out
to 5000 mac users. This is a real person saying that several businesses have
been harrasses, libeled, slandered. This is a real person saying my family
was threatened.

I can tell you that I have assured myself these attacks did not come from
myself, macunicorn nor fansoftware. I think the 3 of us would hold up under
any type of scrutiny.

My business is a better business bureau member. http://www.labbb.org/scripts/cgiip.e.../inetpub/wwwro

Frankly these people can send all the poorly written emails they want, they are the criminals in the end not I. BEWARE these people or those selling products that promise radical features such as memory defragmentation on Mac OS X or CPU Doubling or Virus Scanning if you have NEVER HEARD OF THEM BEFORE.

And lastly DO NOT BLINDLY BUY ANY PRODUCT YOU HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED AND TRIED OUT.

If there are ANY negative comments on versiontracker.com for these outrageous products be suspicious. Be even MORE suspicious if you also see a lot of positive comments - these people often recruit like-minded people to pump up their ratings or just do it themselves with multiple accounts.

In my checking MacUnicorn.com actually posted more negative comments to www.mrdataworks.com products than allegedly happened to MacUnicorn.com's products (if you can call them that).

BE AWARE, BE CAUTIOUS and DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH THIS!

MacUnicorn.com is a FRAUD pure and simple. I already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against MacNtosh.com for sending me the threatening email for no apparent reason. I urge you to you the same (see the link in the above referenced email).

THIS MUST STOP, NOW!
