Take a cloth with eyeglass cleaner on it and rub the scroll ball around a bit. If it still doesn't work you may have bad mice...

I have another question:
The side buttons are harder to press then the upper buttons. Is it normal?

I haven't noticed that the side buttons are harder to activate, though, you do have to press both buttons simultaneously.

Yes. The side buttons seem to be harder to press because of them being on the side of the mouse (I think...).

From my experience using a MM in the Apple Store, I find the side buttons difficult to push due to their position. One has to strain in order to squeeze their pinky finger at that angle--the thumb is no problem, of course.

I think what you need to do is rub your ball real good. You might even want to use a lubricant.

Always having this problem with the mighty mouse - drives me mad!

The way I try fix it is to use screen wipes, which sometimes works, but I wish there was a more elegant long term solution.

sorry for the late reply but thanks for the responses. I'll try to clean it and see if it works.

There is actually a help article on the apple website that addresses this. They said to turn the mouse upside down, and then vigorously rub the scroll ball with a wet cloth. So I did that, and it worked, first try. Here's the quote and link (if the forum will let me link, we'll see)......

If the scrolling feels rough or if the scroll ball isn't scrolling up, down, or side-to-side, hold the mouse upside-down and roll the ball vigorously while cleaning it to help dislodge any particles that may have collected on the internal hardware.
