The last three Presidents of the United States did.

I understand the need to appear to be in touch with regular regular people and not be seen as an elitist, but Timex watches seem unbecoming of the most powerful person on Earth. And this is not an issue of patriotism either. Timex is far from the only American watch company, and many of those competing American watch companies make watches that look classy.

Thoughts?

Who cares its all for appearance as you say. I'd be more concerned about how he's going to handle the flagging economy then figuring out which watch makes him look like he's more in touch with the little people.

BTW I wear timex watches because they cost less and usually take more abuse.

Rolex is a higher end watch. Timex were made for US consumers. It was a watch that worked very well, without the extra cost. Some didn't care for the pretensions that come with having a high faloootin watch.

I guess it's also because I abuse my watches a lot.

I remember swatch watches. Cheap, and worked well. And almost indestructible.

I felt that you didn't understand my Bond comment. It wasn't just about the cost of the watch, but the durability - which is paramount if you abuse watches yet still want to look good.

Ever heard of Movado?

As much as The Movado Group tries to convince us that the Movado brand is Swiss, it has been American since 1983 (and the Classic Museum was designed by an American). With all the talk of "hope" and "change" during the Presidential campaign, the story of The Movado Group's founder would be a fitting one to tell during the State of the Union speech.

And, no, Timex watches have not been manufactured in the United States in decades, but the company is still based in the United States.

Timex watches do fine jobs of keeping time, but that Timex Ironman is not appropriate with a suit.

Meh. You can't see it anyway. It's almost like underwear. Not (usually) exposed.

I don't particularly like the Ironman series, but I would have no problem wearing other cheap watches with an expensive suit. In fact, I've done so many times.

P.S. I haven't actually seen a Rolex that I've actually liked the looks of much.

I wear a Tag Heuer Formula One. Not because of the name or anything, but because I know that it will last a while, and I don't ever have to take it off. (although I do for long typing sessions)

A surprisingly large number of people comment on it, and I notice that clients and other people that I meet with eye it during meetings.

Wearing a certain watch says a lot. I have noticed that Obama goes for the leather strap as opposed to the link, which I didn't expect, but makes sense.

Disney TimeWorks is made by Fossil (overseas). THAT should be the brand presidents wear.

Hmm... I guess you gotta chose your brand early. Plus it would be hard to set the date once a month.
