Geez - isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery?
Actually I am glad the iBook doesn't have a big pair of ears like the Sony - normally Sony design is as good if not better than Apple's (Sony has more products) however the ears (speakers) look stupid

The add-on "ear" speakers are actually an Apple idea, shown in a prototype PowerBook in 1997. Since they are removable, they seem like a good way to achieve better sound, but only when needed.
And as the article from ZDNet Japan points out, the "moustache" trackpad is cleary reminiscent of the good old PowerBook 2400c, aka Comet.
I would take the imitation by Sony as a sincere form of flattery.

PS: Why to people keep misspelling VAIO? It's VAIO, not VIAO!!!

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

Maybe Disney will sue them for infringement on Micky Mouse. I see shades of the old clam-shell iBook as well. Slightly bulbous appearance, but an obvious rip-off of the new iBook.
What I'd love to see Apple copy from Sony is the tiny C-1 Picture Book. Forget the camera, just make a super-small notebook like the C-1 for mobile email and web browsing.

Actually I thought of a Tic Tac.
And is it just me or does that thing have only one button? I guess it must pivot or something. But it's STILL ugly.

The mouse is yet another Apple rip-off. It's a no-button mouse, but they added the scroll wheel. Sheesh! The Apple mouse is the one thing I wouldn't expect anyone to copy. As nice as it looks, it just doesn't compare to my Logitech cordless optical. I can just imagine the Sony product development group meeting: "Screw it. Lets just copy everything Apple makes." Meeting adjourned.

well, now we know how long it takes a completely bankrupt-of-their-own-ideas industrial design group to copy things they like ...
ps. This thing will BOMB in the marketplace. It will be SO amusing to hear the HOWL of PC (l)users as their tiny minds try to figure out how to use the un-mouse button ... and only one!!

Actually, according to the article, this Vaio is some sort of prototype that doesn't have any precise specification yet. Regarding that white mouse, I would have loved to have one for my iBook but apparently that white thing is only a cover. There is a mouse under that white plastic cover.

Rambo, I got a good laugh from your last post. I took note that you have the same mouse I have. I love it, I discovered I could move the cursor with it from the other side of the room or from the room next door, not that there is any reason to. Do you be any chance have iDVD on the system your using that mouse on. I found that when I try to lauch iDVD with it iDVD will just hang in the middle of launching the program. I comfirmed this by uninstalling the drivers and used a different mouse, it opened fine. After reinstalling I got the same problem. My work around is to disable the extensions and use my Apple optical when I want to use iDVD. I'd like to hear what your experience is.

Just shows that Apple's design is ground-breaking, but at the same time, you can't beat 'em.
Concerning the "ears":
*ROTFLM* - this ain't for real, in'it ??
So far,

No it isn't. That design on the cover of MacWorld was NOT designed by Apple. MacWorld hired a 3rd party to come up with that design.
Not to mention it reminds me of this:
People probably spell VAIO wrong because it is not a very American word and is STUPID!

On the subtopic of the mouse depicted. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?! It looks worse than the AZTEK!!!
I have a wireless Logitech, USB wheel with the optical laser rather than a ball. Its awesome and fully supported with no additional drivers in OSX 10.1! Although if you wanted to reassign buttons, you'd want the Logitech drivers.
Great product for anyone looking at a mouse replacement!

Since when are words 'american words' i think the phrase you were looking for was 'english words'. VAIO wasnt made for just americans actually VAIO was designed by a very clever man named Teiyu Goto.

Thank God that Sony imitated the iceBook and not a company like compaq or dell. At least Sony has their **** fairly straight. They have some really cool designs(and to the earlier post, they don't even compare to apple!!!). Imagine if Dell had made an imitation....lol...
I actually like the way this thing looks. It's kinda cool except for the ridiculous "ears". If you want good sound from a portable computer you dock it to a sound system or you use headphones. It's not like those speakers will really satisfy anyone anyways. If you're on the go, you have to use headphones. And when you're stationary, why not plug it in to a stereo. I mean, people are discarding parts of their powerbook(ibooks) just to lose 1/20 of a pound. Who in the right mind would add a pound or more for those speakers?
