Taiwanese firm Quanta has started on trial production of the Apple iWatch, and will enter mass production in July in advance of an October release date, sources tell Reuters. One person says that the watch will "likely" have a 2.5-inch rectangular display, protruding slightly from the wristband in an arched shape. The device is also expected to have a touch interface, and be one of Apple's first products with wireless charging.

An October launch window is consistent with two recent reports; rumors about display size and charging functions haven't always been in agreement, however. Wireless charging might increase the appeal of the watch, since as a wearable people will want to avoid plugging it in.

The same source responsible for the display specifications comments that Apple is currently predicting 50 million in shipments by the end of the product's first year. That translates to an average of just under 4.2 million units per month. Quanta will allegedly handle at least 70 percent of assembly; another source says that LG Display will be the exclusive display manufacturer, at least for the initial batch of watches.

I just hope its true wireless charging so you can simply set the watch down in the proximity of the base station and not have to directly set it on a base station.

God, I hope it doesn't have such a humongous screen. Most other "rumors" described 1.2" and 1.5" sizes. 2.5" is just way too big - who wants a watch that's bigger than one of those grotesquely large Casio diving watches? Also, Apple prides itself on elegant design - no way a 2.5" watch can be made to look elegant.

Wireless charge would be a super awesome if it's on iPhone 6.
