Wayne Newton: Johnny Carson ‘mean-spirited’ - Access Hollywood - MSNBC.com

I wouldn't have known if he hadn't brought it up. What I don't get is why he went through all those other people before actually trying to talk to Carson, and then threatening him with physical violence...

Why is Wayne Newton famous? He is nothing but a no-talent hack and I question his masculinity every time I see him.

As far as Carson, I don't really give a rat's ass if he really was a jerk. I've heard that before and I don't care. He was a great entertainer and a great host. Wayne Newton can blow me.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

While I wouldn't say getting blown by an effeminate male is the most gay thing you can do, I'd say it would be at least a little gay.

Having fellatio performed on you by a man doesn't make you gay?

Well, wishing to be blown by Wayne Newton instead of some nice female babe makes it a tad questionable. But hey, to each.

I think that one would have to be truly gay to let Wayne Newton blow him, yes.

Bingo!

"Advertisements throughout the airport showed enormous pictures of Newton, microphone in hand, as he performed at the Aladdin Hotel. A taxi ride into the city required driving on Wayne Newton Boulevard. If a visitor was very lucky, his driver might tell him that his arrival date coincided with the celebration by the people of Las Vegas of Wayne Newton Day. And if one asked the driver what he thought of Wayne Newton (as I always did), the answer was invariably positive. Newton was good for tourism, one was told; he was good for taxi drivers, too, having entertained many of them for free at various points during his entertainment reign in Las Vegas. More important, Newton was the embodiment of Las Vegas, its ambassador to the world."

Floyd Abrams, on arriving in 1986 into Las Vegas to represent the National Broadcasting Company against Wayne Newton in a famous libel suit.[3]

I resent that! I’m nothing but gay, and I wouldn’t let Wayne Newton blow me under any circumstances.

No. Preferring to have fellatio performed on you by a man, rather than a woman, makes you gay. A sexual act means nothing on its own, q.v. prostitution.

Wayne is a relentless performer, but as for being a nice guy... not so much. His biggest hit, "Danke Schoen", got him in the spotlight, and hes stayed there ever since. He is quite a showman, but that's a pretty limited role.

And remember that Liberace made zillions playing that piano...was he particularly "masculine?"

You can question my masculinity for posing with a wax Wayne.

I'm completely comfortable with that.

It all depends on your schema of what is "gay" A friend at work was taking a class at ASU and this was brought up. The professor explained it this way:
In the US all baseball players are gay, in Brazil(or prison), you are gay if you are a "catcher", "pitchers" are not gay
by this schema, you are gay if you are the sucker, not the suckee, therefore Danny Bonaduce is not gay

I would say any attempt to apply binary logic to human sexuality is doomed from the outset.

Edit: hence my use of the phrase a little gay

I’m a little confused as to what exactly Brazilian baseball players have to do with my refusal to let Wayne Newton blow me...

It was a metaphor the professor was using. In other countries, the giver is gay, the receiver is not, in the US both are That's why in prison you are not gay if you are the "man" and you are if you are the "bitch"

But you knew that already

Actually, I didn’t. And it still seems odd to me (but then again, I’m not American). I don’t see how allowing someone else do stuff to you makes you gay per default, just like a guy pulling tricks isn’t necessarily himself gay. Isn’t that sort of the whole point of various kinds and levels of prostitution?

(Just so the zealots don’t accuse me of derailing the thread too much: I’m sure Wayne Newton is a gay prostitute.)

I believe that was the point he was making. How this is considered is culturally dependent.

The general (though by no means exclusive) opinion in the U.S. is that if you do anything even remotely gay that makes you a big ol' flamer. Apparently the Brazilians have an attitude more similar to the one you describe.

Which is why Danny Bonaduce is gay in the U.S. but not in a Brazilian prison or some such.

So has Senator Larry Craig. I wonder how much Newton has spent in plastic surgery over the years.

In the "E Hollywood True Story" episode on Newton, it claimed Newton stated he believed Carson pressured NBC News to run the mob connection stories as revenge for beating him out on the Aladdin Hotel purchase. I doubt that. Carson would have been named in the suit.

Opposite for me. I've never heard a bad thing said about Wayne, while I've considered it common knowledge that Carson was a jag.

Not that I don't miss him, or think Leno isn't a jag.
