Should be pretty snappy.

So some people got their grubby hands on a 64 bit version of Photoshop, eh? I wonder if it runs well (if it runs at all on a non-G5 at this point in its development). Snappy download speed at least.

I have just had a chance to use it - on a 17 AL, seems much faster in every way.

Seriously sweet, presumably OS X only?

Fsck - this is a completely new lease of life - no exaggeration I use PS 7 every day to retouch 30-100 mb images - I've become very used to PS7's less likable features, **** scrolling, slow saves, treacle like filters etc...

After my, very provisional, probing of PS8, I would say the beast is back.

Yep, they're removing all classic code to make it less bloated and faster.

I'm using it as my default photoshop now. I haven't got any crash so far. I only wish that they'll update the interface to follow HIG more closely. If Adobe Imageready allow you to drag the window LIVE then why can't Photoshop?

If PS8 is supposed to be 64bit, it's not yet. No one testing it right now (outside of Adobe's offices, I'd assume) has 64bit hardware, so the copies making their rounds on warez are 32bit...

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I'm not sure if you're right but the version said: 8.0x064 DEV

Note the "64"

This is most likely Hexadecimal, because of the 0x0.

64 would be 40 in Hex = 0x040 I think.

But it's just a funny way to display a version number.

Abobe will have a G5 plug-in by the time the G5's ship.

7.5 maybe?

Edit: Add this note:

I wonder what features would justify an 8.0 release. I have the feeling that rewriting code, though fundamentally important, doesn't cut it on the marketing end. Just as many people aren't really happy with Panther (the way its been presented to us currently) even though it seems to have a large percentage of its performance issues worked out, as well as overall refinements made. People want whizbang features when they have to pay money. They don't want polish. Polish, aparrently should be free.

I think that the jump from 6.0 to 7.0 was only a valid digit update because it went OS X native. If I ran a PC, I don't think I would have even considered the upgrade.

If (and I'm not saying this is true, just speculating) the majority of the upgrade is to cover performance issues, I could see that it would be 7.5.

Note all the kids running the pirated version right now. They couldn't run a 64bit piece of software on their 32bit hardware...

Methinks that others are right and it's just a build number, although I'm sure Adobe will have a 64bit version by the time it ships... But I wonder if they'll put out two products: a 32 and a 64....

It's hex, in case you hadn't noticed.

Maybe it's going to be 7.5. I think they're basically removing all the mid 80es code

Photoshop's healing brush made the jump from 6.0 to 7.0 believable to me =)

That puppy's saved me so much time it's not even funny anymore.

Oh, it does mean something? I would suppose the CS does not designate some kind of dumbed-down version of Photoshop, like Photoshop LE back then, since they now have Photoshop Elements for that.

Hmm.

No idea. Hint, please :-)

No crashes so far.. Photoshop 8 seem to hang from time to time so I switched back to Photoshop 7. I heard that PS8 beta 78 is leaked so I'll try that soon. Imageready 8 beta blow at this time

What about RAW conversion. I have the Canon 10D and the Raw+JPEG 2000 plug-in does not support it, Ive heard the PS8 will have support for it? Any beta testers know of this???

The file Browser in Photoshop 7 has saved me oodles of time as well. Wasn't the text pallette also new to version 7? And I know the spellchecker was.

A feature I would kill for in Photoshop would be the ability to output your document via firewire so you can preview your work on a television like you can After Effects - very handy for us video guys. Hopefully we'll get this feature in the next couple of years.
