I'm guessing he cut a path out, created a copied layer behind it, then turned it black and made a drop shadow. It's not all that difficult in Photoshop (if I remember correctly)

-cut out the frog.
-created a new file from clipboard.
-duplicate layer.
-brought the bottom layer down to black by reducing light all the way.
-used a gausian blur on the bottom layer.
-moved the bottom layer down and off to the right slightly.

Fun with photoshop...

I reciently took the uncle same image and morphed my friends face on it... I changed the wording to say "I WANT YOU TO CANNONBALL!" (cannonball reference to caddy shack AKA drinking from the bottle)

I agree a very cool looking frog/toad. Did you take the picture yourself?

Why not make the tutorial and post it on MacNN for everyone?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Its a toad!

Those cows won't know what hit 'em. They won't know what hit them even after it hits them, because they're cows.

That shadow trick works really well to simulate a 2D object hovering over a plane. But remember that 3D objects resting on a plane cast shadows differntly.

Same thing with the frog.
