I've been using PC's since 1991. My only experience with Mac was back in 1986 or so, when I played some games on a friend's Apple ][ (choplifter, I think).

I minored in unix in college, and after seeing & hearing about OS X, I've been converted...

I went all out too, G4.. flat screen.. those cute little speakers and an iSub..

So welcome me... be gentle... I'm used to 2 mouse buttons and constant reboots. I love formatting my hard drive 15 times a year. I like viruses I don't even have to execute. Beige? That's my fav color...

They laughed at my Mac, it had no CLI. They laughed at Linux, it had no GUI. I installed MacOS X, and shut them up.

Welcome to (the new...) Macintosh

Too bad your first foray had to be such a gaudy one, but hey, to each their own

You'll never go back.

Welcome to the Happiest User Community on Earth.

There've been quite a few people in your position coming over in the last six months. Every one is welcome.

Not unlike yourself, I was bitten by the Apple bug the winter of 1999. I must warn you that this is an addiction. I never felt a passion for my Windows based computers, with my Macs I do. Since I took the plunge, I have owned 2 iMacs and 2 G-4s.

I will never forget asking my borther-in-law (a printer) how to uninstall an application. He stated that you just through it away. I inquired where on the hard drive could I locate the uninstall program to start the process. His reply was "it's the icon on your desktop, drag it to the trash." At that point I realized that I had made the right choice.

Welcome to our world.

Doooood... Ya, Macs ah wiked fsckin' cool.

I used to use PCs (at home) but not for a long time. 5 years or so ago, I never looked back. While nothing is perfect, it's nice having a computer that gets out of your way and lets you get your work done.

Enjoy.

Well said!

The "passion" part is something that I have not had about computers since the mid-80's. It's nice to see that I still have that kind of excitement about a machine.

I also share your uninstall experience. I too had posted a message asking "how to uninstall" an app. When given the above response I was like "WOW, that's great!". (Although one still has to go and find the prefs file if they so desire.

Welcome to the Mac family! I switched permanently two years ago, and I ain't goin' back!

ACDSee is available in a Mac version; I use it regularly for quick viewing of my photoraphs.

Limewire is also available.

One good place to look for Mac software.

Another site for software.

Goatnet: Welcome! I'm glad to read that more and more people are 'seeing the light'! I hope your current Mac (and those to come) serve you as well as mine have served me.

Since I've started using computers, I've used Macs almost exclusively...sure, I've dabbled with Windows and am forced to use it from time to time at work, but I don't think anything would make me switch willingly...especially with OS X on the market and the prospect of G5 based machines on the horizon

Things are starting to look very bright

Best of luck to you!

you can get a wide variety of Mice for the Mac. I happen to have the M$ intellamouse, though OS X is still lacking drivers, the scroll wheel works fine as does the right click. Word is we get drivers next month. :-/ Also (Kingston?) makes a very good mouse basically identical to mine but it does have drivers.

Now that your hear learn about Macworld and save money. There are 2 biggies (SF in January (the new Imac just came out here) and NY in July) then Tokyo in Fed/March (can never keep it straight) and Paris in September. Until this past year virtually EVERY apple product has been introduced at these expos, so learn about the highly skilled art of product guessing and my advice is ONLY buy the day it comes out.

Welcome. BTW

ACDSee - Has a Mac version ... but it's MUCH MUCH slower than it's PC counterpart. (Which is a crying shame since the UI is so nice on it.)

Functionality wise GraphicsConverter is pretty good, but the UI is hokey. You'll need to read the LARGE included manual to figure out most of the stuff in it.

P2P - We have a client for AudioGalaxy called "Sputnix". We also have a version of LimeWire. (I think ... I've never used it.)

Anawave Gravity - Try HogWasher (shareware) or MT-NewsWatcher (Freeware). HogWasher is probably closer to what you are looking for.

Good luck!

Hi, and welcome!

You can't go wrong with GraphicConverter. It is one of the best pieces of shareware out there, and Thorsten Lemke provides amazing support and updates.

I'm just glad that I'm in the position I am now. I came to school with a Compaq Armada 233 laptop that completely bit the bullet, and now I'm with a G4 Macintosh. Now that more and more people are switching over, WE should get the software first.

Nice sig APU. Maybe you should start a new thread - "side note Girls Love Macs." I know a few guys who might save money on their automotive transportation...

As it is my wife doesn't like computers too much at all, but she's getting the hang of OSX very quickly after using 9 as her first Mac OS.

First, welcome to Macintosh. There has never been a better time to be a Mac user. So enjoy!

Second, if a user here named "Wiggles" makes any comments at all, please ignore them. You see, Wiggles is posting from a mental hospital somewhere in Nevada. He's been known to take on the personality of an 11-year old girl scout, and sometimes a self-proclaimed "IT Professional". No matter what his personality is that day, it's reccomended that you avoid Wiggles. You see, we fear that one day he will escape from the hospital and come to all our homes and replace our Macs with IBM Netvistas.

I know it sounds strange, but all of this is the truth. Please excuse our sick friend, and again welcome to mac!

Argh! Stupid FedEx Ground!

My apartment is complex is split so that A-F are along the street and G-L are around back.

D'uh, "unable to deliver your package because you don't have an address."

Now I have to wait for my delivery sometime today. I got errands to do, shopping, but I ain't moving until that doorbell rings.

Guess what I'm using to type this message???

I must admit, this is by FAR the nicest computer I've personally ever used. The quality and appearance simply blow me away!

Like the little light up buttons on the studio display, or the eject button on the keyboard...

And adding additional ram in the computer was a breeze! What the hell? I'm used to 15 screws and a staple gun for my x86 computer.

Now I just need to figure out how to use it
