A student in California owes his life to an iPhone, after it stopped a bullet during a robbery. Police advise that a Fresno State student was attacked by a thief nearby the campus early last week, and while they were shot at with a black semi-automatic handgun, the bullet luckily hit the iPhone and was deflected away from the student's body, preventing them from being seriously injured.

Officers responded to a 911 call at the apartment block the victim lived at, reports the Fresno Bee. The unnamed victim was walking home and was accosted near his front door after being approached from behind. The man tried to say something to the victim, albeit not heard clearly, before shooting a single shot and grabbing the laptop bag containing a HP notebook.

As is to be expected, the iPhone was severely damaged by the bullet. The shot hit the back cover of the iPhone, kept in the victim's pants pocket, causing a deep groove both on the back of the case and the iPhone, and shattering the screen at the same time.

According to NBC News, the victim has decided to move away with no plans to return to Fresno in the immediate future.

Even if it didn't kill him, the shot might have taken something just as important as his life. All for an HP notebook. They should be checking local mental health clinics for escapees.

Note how glancing a blow that bullet was. I doubt a more direct strike would have offered any protection.

@ Inkling: A brilliant statement of the obvious. The iPhone is not promoted as a flak vest.

An argument for carrying the iphone as body armor or for sealing the borders from the invading poverty and criminality?

This has about as much to do with sealing the borders as my coffee this morning has to do with oil futures.

Take your politics to the appropriate forum, and not in my news.
