Wont find my external HD!

	I got a used maxtor HD at work with my 10.4.2. The thing is, when i plug the FW-wire in, nothing happens. Is there really no other way to recognize it? Thanks...!

	3.5 inch? maxtor casing? Power supply? "nothing happens"? Does the disk spin? Is it just not mounted? Does it show up in Disk Utility? System Profiler? ...
