Hey everybody,
Weird one here I think. I have a 5G 30GB video iPod, and since I did the update this week my backlight stays on dimly the whole time it is connected to my MBP or while charging. The usual red slash/circle and 'Do not disconnect' appears on the screen just fine, but the light just stays on and will not go off at all. I have tried numerous settings changes and everything I can think of. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Thanks!

I've noticed this as well on my 5g. Has anyone found a solution for this, or is it harmless?

Same thing with mine, I would like to get it to turn off, I'm sure this will affect the life of the battery and screen...

Well if you're only charging your iPod, eject it through iTunes and turn it off by holding the Play/Pause button for 5 seconds. The backlight goes off, but the iPod continues to charge. I don't know how to turn off the backlight while the iPod is syncing though.

This is apparently a feature. The backlight is very dim compared to how it usually is, though.

Easy, just eject the iPod from iTunes. It will change to "Charging" mode and will turn off the backlight.
edit: oops, I just realize pheoixash posted the same solution. Sorry.

yes i have the same problem and it drives me nuts because the do not disconnect icon keeps on flashing. upgraded to itunes 7.0.1 but no change. firmware is up to date.
lcd screens suffer from burn-in - i'm assuming that the ipod screen will suffer in the same way if left there for so long??
phantomo, your solution works but problem arises when you leave your ipod mounted so you can listen to the songs while it's charging (if songs are not on itunes)...

I personally like the fact that when it's plugged up to the computer the screen stays lit now. Now I only have it pluged up long enough to sync from time to time, but others may leave it on more and I could see it having adverse effects on the long run, but maybee since it's only half lit up.

My particular problem with it is that I have my dock next to my computer, in the day you can't see it so it's fine but at night it is pretty damn bright even half lit, and because it's lit you can see the flashing icon from the corner of your eye, which is just very distracting and annoying.
does anyone else have this same problem as me?
is there a way feedback to apple to allow us to toggle the backlight on or off?
thanks

I think it's just a bug with the 1.2 firmware and the iPod video. My 1st gen Nano doesn't do it, but a friends 1st gen video that I had to revive recently does it after updating to 1.2.
