I take video of my son from time to time, and I'd like to compile this video into DVD's to send out to family and friends. It's quite a pain to scour through my tapes to find the footage I'd like to use. Is there a way to store all this footage on my external 120Gb HD for easy retrieval, preferrably in a compressed format that takes less room, while still allowing me to use it in iMovie?

Thanks,

-Scott

AFAIK iMovie cannot capture (or work with) any format other than DV, so you will not be able to capture with a higher compression than DV. You can do this in FCP with the OfflineRT format, but that's only in FCP.

You can still capture all your DV footage to your hard drive. With a 120GB drive that's around nine hours of DV.
