A friend of mine asked me this:
I'm looking for some advice here. So I'm switching back to Mac this fall
and the MacBook Pro Duo has caught my eye. But I've read that it
underperforms with Photoshop CS2. Photoshop is the number one product I'm
going to be running so it's critical that it screams. Esp. since a lot of
the files I'll be working on are anywhere from 120Mb to 650Mb. And they're
only going to be getting bigger once I upgrade my digital camera to a
12MP+ full-size sensor.

Also, what do you think of the graphics cards on those things? Should i go
for the 2.0Ghz model with the 128MB graphics card or the 2.16Ghz model
with the 256MB card?

Do you happen to have any info that might point me at when to buy and
which model Apple Laptop to get?
Thanks,
Scott Genevish

Photoshop will have to run under Rosetta until its made Universal. It wont "scream".

Once it is universal it will fly.

What you need are a comparison between a MBP and Rosetta Photoshop vs the fastest PowerBook and Photoshop.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

I can say that I was running Photoshop on a 1.25 GHz PowerBook before I got my 2.0 GHz MBP.

The PB had 1GB memory and my MBP has 1.5GB memory.

Photoshop is noticeably slower on my MBP than it was on the PB. I have an action that I run in Photoshop quite often than resizes images. On the PB it would run through them: click. click. click. click. click.

On the MBP, that same action takes about 3 times as long: click.......click.......click.......click.....
MacBook Pro - 2.0GHz Core Duo
iBook - 1.2GHz G4
PowerMac - Dual Core 2.3GHz G5
Mac mini - 1.25GHz G4
