I'm involved in a curriculum review/dispute regarding the HBO mini-series "Angels in America". Has anyone here seen it, and if so, was it appropriate for a college literature class?

Without knowing the scope of the class and exactly what is being debated it's hard to say if it was inappropriate for that class.
Example: Let's say this literature class focuses on story writing, then it would be appropriate in terms of showing (and debating the merits) one method tying together what at first appears to be separate stories into one single connected story.

I saw both plays, but not the miniseries. They're certainly not inappropriate for a college class, if you just mean the sexual content or topic matter.

Angels in America was a great miniseries. I also think it would be very well suited for a college literature class.

I studied the play in a college literature class last fall. I didn't think it was inappropriate, and I had fun coming up with my crazy interpretations which the teacher always loved.

They might be appropriate for prompting a discussion on what the definition of literature is.
