Statement 1:
I think that all OS's are very secure these days if used with the standard internet access tools, most exploits are "potential" only, and I don't want to see computers lose boatloads of usability for the sake of "potential" issues which never really materialise.

Statement 2:
I think that all OS's are full of holes, and when they are discovered someone is bound to take advantage. Patching them is vital to protect my data, and whenever there is a conflict, convenience must come second.

If some malware app hoses my hard drive and forces me to reinstall the OS and all my apps and restore all my data from backup, then all of a sudden it's not that convenient anymore, is it?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Seconded [thirded]?

Security should be made as convenient as possible, but it should never be sacrificed in the name of convenience. Only seldom are the two concepts mutually exclusive, but when they are security should win.

Worse yet is if it were a Trojan widget waiting a month to activate.

I keep 3 cloned firewire drives rotating backup every week. If Trojan waited a month to activate, I would have to revert to DVD backups and have to recreate.........

Still no-one's voted for option 1. Either asdasd hasn't voted, or he doesn't agree with his own statement in another thread!
