If you actually believe that Apple is going to release something called "Illuminous," I want what you're having.

Illuminous could be the code name. Maybe it's really called "Ebony" ??
I'm torn about the rise of glossy black gui elements. For the switcher or Quicktime overlay it's fine, but I think the black highlight in the iTunes source pane is kinda wrong. The rising number of transparent black panels in places like iPhoto aren't easy to like, either.
I thought Mail and iTunes 6 were a sign of a flatter, simpler gui.
I'm willing to trust Apple. If they completely dump pinstripes and brushed metal, I'll be happy.

Right. Just look at the latest iTunes iteration. That is likely what to expect. iTunes is NOT Aqua, but black gloss.

Me too

It's already gone in my system. But i'd love to have it that way by default.
I love having to not mess with OS9's gui because it was perfect from the get go

I'm guessing more like Safari button gloss, but black, like the new Dashboard button in Leopards safari.

I hate the rumors saying that it may look similar to Vista. It may look similar in that it uses a similar color scheme, but I doubt it actually looks like vista.
On the other hand, I think there's definitely going to be a new interface as 10.5 is going to be resolution independent meaning the entire theme needs to be rebuilt built with vectors instead of bitmaps so it would make sense that they would do something new (though this scares me a bit what this might mean for Os X theming)

I thought they were just making bitmap images at different sizes, so that you would choose fixed scales (e.g.: 1x, 1.5x, 2x, etc.). Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s just the impression I got.

Well the resolution independent GUI elements already in the developer builds of Leopard are definitely vector based. Though, it's true, this doesn't mean that the entire GUI will be vector based, they could just be planning to scale the bitmaps for now. But the resolution independence included in Tiger would let you scale it to any fraction you wanted (it would just make most things unusable) so I would assume they would keep the same functionality.
I believe the main point in resolution independence is so that you can set things on the computer to be a real physical size (in conjunction with the knowledge of your monitors DPI) and this wouldn't be possible with set fractions.

Well I don't think anyone can show those, if they do have any images. Supposedly they will show the new gui next month, I believe.

I want my computer to say "BOOM" every time I do something. And it has to be in Steve's voice.
Someone should make this app.

Those are pretty clearly buggy as hell though, so I'm not sure how much use it is in deciding what the end result will be...

The buttons look nice. They're glossy, but it's no overwhelming. I like gloss anyways, so it's not a real problem for me.
But the top left and right window edges-they need to fix where the round-edge-gradient meets the top and left and right sides. It looks ugly, and that problem is present in the current Aqua GUI.
