1. Google for Pic2icon
2. .ico is a windows icon and will not show in the finder. Pixadex will convert them for you.

You can always open the .PNG in the Apple OSx Graphics Converter, then save as Apple Icon..
Graphics Converter should have come with your computer.

Pixadex 2 now supports image importing, so you can just drag them in and drag them back out and you have an icon.

Open in Photoshop (or Elements), Select All, Copy Merge. Switch to Iconographer and Paste as Icon & Mask. Save as "Mac OS Universal" and enjoy.

I've always used CanCombineIcons. It's a great app, and if you hold down the option key while dragging in a PNG it will use the source... great, fast, light and awesome.
Pixadex 2 would be the way to go now though. Stellar app!
