took 17.5 hrs on my 1.33 powerbook to render, but I'm really happy with the final project. I like 3D modeling... it's like building with legos.

I've made other objects, but this is my first scene. I used Cinema 4D

Thanks for the comments

sweet!

there are only three things I see:

- The ground has a slope, so that any water that gets out of the toilet or shower will flow to the drian on the ground. Nice touch--you've got an eye for detail. But it looks almost like the rug doesnt follow this slope, kinda like its floating...

- Not a huge thing, really just a nitpick and me being a b!tch... but the toilet paper really doesnt seem to drape naturally.

- You've done an excellent job with the textures, nice and dirty! However, the procedural-ness of the frame for the mirror/medicine cupboard doesn't do the rest of your texturing work justice.

I know its supposed to look dirty all around, but it would be cool if you made a slightly less dirty one that used an ambient occlusion shader to modify the distribution of grime...that would be slick. But its also cool as it is, so watev.

as far as your rendering time--how many ray recursions do you have? how many lights do you have in the scene? Tweaking these things may get you a better time. I also wouldnt be surprised if that nice volumetric light you have going on there (kudos on that BTW!) is responsible for much of the rendertime. Do you think you could add it in using PS after rendering?

again, this is excellent work! And I dunno how many noticed it but the "Bless This Mess" frame above the toilet and the shadow of the dude against the wall really contribute to this scene!

I like the silhouette of the figure in the tiles from the shower wall of the doorway.

Its quite the grunge bath.

If only my bathroom was that neat and clean.

Very nice work!

I hope you didn't model that from your own bathroom.

Looks sharp though. It could be straight out of a Silent hill game.

loki - thanks for the suggestions, I noticed the problem with the rug too, but it was already after I rendered... as far as the rendering time goes, I used HDRI and the Volumetric light through the window. I think the HDRI and the reflections really slowed it down.

socially awkward - hehe the layout of the bathroom is based on my apartment bathroom, but thankfully it doesn't look like that. I think I would move.

Silent hill's style was a big influence on this as well.

This is really amazing! You should make a tutorial that would explain how to do it.

Some things look a bit dis-proportionate to me. The drain and toilet both look large in relation to the room and bathtub.

Awesome work

17 hours? What was the original rendering resolution?

What software did you use?

If the rendering software is free, maybe some of us could donate CPU time if you want to make an animation?

The origional rendering resolution was 800x600. What really ate up the time was HDRI + volumetric lighting.

unfortunately I don't know how to do 3D animation yet - that's next year def looking forward to it. Also the software I use is Cinema 4D so it's not free, but thanks for the very generous offer and the comments!

Pretty neat. The only ting I noticed was the rug is kinda floating on the right edge. But its pretty cool, if it were the right resolution, it would make a neat wallpaper . (make some wallpapers )

That is freaking incredible. Absolutely wow. My only comment was in response to the toilet paper. To me, the drape is a little off as someone already said, but it also appears blurred and their is a lack of texture when it is lying on the ground.

Other than that, seriously, amazing.

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

Very nice job and extremely well rendered. Next, which you know, attempt to animate.

This is a movie still from Independence Day that I worked on, that is a still from animation and the movie itself, using Renderman, Particle Motion Dynamic, and Notion LynoTronic Hell FX, Maya, @ 72 frames per second.

.........and another scene, for an example.

http://www.behold-the-rage.com/artpage124.html

I do love to blow stuff up, and animate it. 9 of us did this and other scenes, rendered first, animated, shot on video, and like all movies now, shot on film w/filters to get that movie quality ambience we are used to and love.

Your work is superb for animating at this stage.

I've been submerged in the 3D realm a year and haven't dared to attaempt anything like this yet. I guess it's time to jump in. How do you like Cinema 4D? I've been using Maya, but on my new Mac Book Pro it really sucks through Rosetta. I heard C4D is a universal binary?

Thats some really great texturing done in there and a really great job... there is one small thing thats bugging me which noone has mentioned. The silohette on the wall is a cool idea I've used it myself, it may be some of the lighting or my eyes but it appears that the light from the door isn't hitting the tub. is that correct? or is it me. Apart from that its toilet-tastic

My professors said Cinema 4D is a good starting 3D program because it has less of a learning curve than some of the big boys, but still has a lot of higher end features. I'm not working on anything in 3D currently, but sometime this school year I'm going to be starting 3D animation (mainly for product "commercial" type things). Really excited to see what comes of it.

Kick-ass. To add to the nit-picking, the towel seems a bit stiff. But that might just be from being used too much

Wow. But you picked a bathroom? Why not something more pleasing to look at for your second scene? How about a park in the fall?
