Cubs and Sox both in the playoffs in the same year...first time since 1906 or something....

gobo knows that an Angels-White Sox World Series would be best.
gobo knows that that is not possible, but gobo wishes that it could happen.

The Sox current lineup isn't made to compete in the WS. They're down one starting pitcher due to injury and another starting pitcher due to Kenny Williams stupidity in not hiring the additional arm. I was happy to see them take the Central Division in such a dramatic fashion but that really should have been wrapped up last week. A couple of those losses could have been avoided by having a starter who doesn't give up 5 runs in a single inning.
They may be able to take the Rays if they out slug them but in no way do I believe their pitching staff can deliver the show they put on over the last few days in the ALCS.
The Sox being in the playoffs is icing after everyone had such low expectations for them this season and well a deserved honor for being at the top of the division for 95% of the season.
We could have had a real chance at a cross-town World Series (and Daley could have guaranteed his Olympics as a result of the insane coverage) if the Sox just had ONE lights-out pitcher to compliment the roster.
The Cubs on the other hand are going to screw up all the things going for them somehow.
IF they somehow make it to the WS I bet they'll have to of played the full compliment of playoff games in order to make it that far and they'll either be exhausted or lose a couple of starters to freak injuries.
I just hope its Zambrano that implodes and is the reason they lose it all. That guy is such a douche.
I say 2008 goes to the Angels.

Actually, their bullpen was so horrible that they probably wouldn't have lasted long in the playoffs, anyway.
At least the Phillies won a game in the playoffs this year....

I thought the cubs could go all the way to the world series but the dodgers looked impressive last night. I still think the cubs will edge out the dodgers. Additionally I think the end of the season and the extra games that the white sox had to play drained them and they'll not put up too much of a fight.

Not really. I'm pissed that I missed my chance to go to one last game at Shea. Haven't been since '92 when we moved to California, and it just never seemed a priority after moving to Boston until I realized that I just didn't have time.

I'd like to see Tampa Bay do well this year. I'm a Braves fan and this reminds me of the years when the Braves sucked, then made it in. Go Rays!

Maybe it was steroid withdrawal.

Barry Bonds used to say, "Wish in one hand, growth hormones and steroids in the other, see which gets full first."
I made that up, he wouldn't admit he had steroids

Maybe Barry Bonds actually lifted weights to get that big. It has been known to have been done numerous times... just a thought.

Except he took steroids while he was lifting weights. He claims he didn't know it was steroids.

lame user name
I think it was kind of bullsh!t that they gave the Sox the early game rather than the late afternoon or prime-time slot given that the teams had so little time to prepare.
Its things like that and the Astros games being held in Miller Park that highlight the biased decision making from MLB. Just plans things out fairly and see what shakes out.

Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

The first four innings was amazing - every one is up and clapping on very potential strike out. We started to get pretty agitated after the 7th walk by Dempster (seemed like the 20th) and we completely were deflated after the grand slam. If the game had stayed at 4-2, I think we would have been able to get back in to it... but it's hard to stay excited as the game continues to get further and further out of reach and with 0-4 Fukadome and double play Dereck Lee.

gocubsgo sees that everything is going according to plan.
The Cubs and White Sox have let the Dodgers and Rays, respectively, dominate the first two games of their series to give them a false sense of confidence. The Cubs and White Sox will now proceed to crush the competition in these series and the League Championship Series', and then the Cubs will get their revenge on the White Sox for 1906.
gocubs go will then sing gocubsgo's favorite song.

Ugh, I don't know if I can survive another Red Sox post season. Why the hell can't this state have a single bar or restaurant without a TV?

Dear Cubs, Soriano isn't cutting it when it counts. Rickey is available. Proven postseason domination across multiple decades. Inquire within.

Actually, it just shows how big of a Paper Tiger the 08 Cubs were.
They were blow out by a team that only took one game in the NLCS.

I wouldn't have taken any solace in the Dodgers winning anyway - there's no moral victories anymore. It's a championship or bust.
