Microsoft is porting an emulator for Android that will run on OS X, one that has already been released for Windows. Revealed during the Microsoft Connect 2015 conference earlier today, the software giant confirmed it would be creating a version of Visual Studio Emulator for Android to the Mac, as part of a collection of Mac-related
announcements involving its Visual Studio programming suite of apps.
Visual Studio Emulator for Android has been out on Windows since last year,
reports 9to5Mac, with the Mac version expected to arrive soon. The tool is part of Visual Studio 2015, a suite which Microsoft introduced to Mac in April, with the emulator meant to help developers create Android apps more easily, without needing a separate Android device for testing. Microsoft is currently accepting registrations for the Mac version of the emulator through an
online form.

Another related announcement involved the launch of the free
Visual Studio Code editor in beta for Mac, as well as Windows and Linux. The tool, which is said to provide assistance with coding apps without requiring a full IDE is being released as an open source project, allowing anyone to get hold of the code powering the software.

Lastly, Microsoft is launching a free
Visual Studio Dev Essentials bundle, which consists of the Community Edition of Visual Studio, free Team Services, and a number of Azure credits starting from early next year. The suite will be usable for creating apps for iOS, Windows, and Android apps. Organizations preferring not to manage Macs for their iOS development needs can now pay $30 per agent under VS Team Services / VSO build agent plan, though this will still require a registration to the Apple Developer Program for signing certificates and provisioning profiles before releasing the app.
