Took the plunge this weekend and installed the latest version of Developer Tools. Actually I installed the original version that came with the first Mac OS X CD's. Got errors compiling, so I D/L and installed the latest version - it gave me errors at the end of the installation. I was trying to compile/install the latest version of PHP with some fairly simple instructions I found in several locations. - but I got errors every time during the test compile. I am no programmer but looking at the short error list it gave me it appears that GCC is not found, and some other items that look to be compiler related were missing.

Do I need to somehow "enable" the tools or am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing something You don't need to enable anything after you installed. You might like to try posting the error message instead of just saying "It doesn't work", which isn't terribly helpful. Also, this would be more at home under the OS X - Unix forum

You know you can't win for loosing on this board. 90% of the time queries go unanswered, then if I do post a long drawn out msg complete with error msgs, etc - then no one even reads it much less replies (hahaha...whats a reply). I have learned that when it comes to posting on BBS it is best to be succinct and to the point, and if all possible post where the most people are going. Sure it would be grand if everything was categorized - unfortunately all the people conglomerate - so you try to find a category your subject fits into and post.

Well anyway - thanks for the reply...you have been most helpful.

Bluez - in the future, it'd be really helpful to at least post the error messages you get if you have problems. A "it doesnt work" doesnnt even help us, even though we'd like to help.

Anyway,

Looks like it cant find the gcc / cc compiler (which are installed by the Developers tools.

Check /usr/bin - see if cc is located in there. If you installed Developer tools right, then cc should be located in that folder. (Or at least it is on my OSX workstation).

If its there, then the config file must be looking in the wrong place for it. If it's not there, then the Dev tools must've not installed right.
