So he was already given the title of Commander back in 2005 and now he is a Knight Commander. What's the next step? Cobra Commander?
Oh and BBC News article is a little sloppy. Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997. Not 1995.

Knight Grand Cross, but that seems to be very rare.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

What are the criteria for knighthood? I've seen UK citizens and non-UK citizens alike being knighted, for various reasons. It can't be as randomly chosen as a Nobel price.

Oh ha ha. The Queen awards honors, but she does so based on recommendations from her prime minister, in effect based on the advice of a committee. I think anyone can nominate. I don't know what criteria that committee uses.
The Nobels are awarded by different organizations for each price - basically a panel of Swedish experts in each area except for Peace, which is awarded by the Norwegian parliament on the basis of a recommendation from a subcommittee of retired Norwegian politicians.

Only citizens from Her Majesty's domains can use "Sir" or "Dame" as a title.
Citizens from the rest of the world can only receive an honorary knighthood and can't use the title (example: Bob Geldof).

It's actually a list drawn up by the government. Most times it's a list of people who've made Britain proud. Other times (*cough* under a corrupt Labour government *cough*) it can be whoever's given the most money to party coffers.
