Just got a new DP 2.0 (non water cooled).
What is the normal operating temp for the G5's?
At pretty much idle,
CPU A is @ 139 F
CPU B is @ 116 F
Logicboard backside is 110F
Are those normal ranges?
My P4 3.0HT only gets that hot after heavy processing. Normally the Proc temp is 110F and MB is 90F.

My 2.0 DP is the exact same ~133 F. Are these numbers OK?

Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

Yes, these are normal. PowerPC chips usually have a higher tolerance for heat anyway. Your PowerMac will shut itself down before it overheats, so as not to do any damage to the internal components.
At work we actually had a G5 tucked away in a closed cabinet that ran 24/7. After a few weeks we noticed the heat got so intense that the G5 case warped, and the computer was shutting itself down after a few days.
So yeah, what really matters is the temperature of your hard disk, as this directly affects its life. Fortunately, the hard drive bay in a G5 stays relatively cool compared to most PCs, so hard drive life shouldn't be a problem. Always backup your important data just in case.

My own machine (G5 dual 2.5) was producing 213 degrees farenheit on the
backside of the memory controller on a really hot day with the air conditioning
off recently. Frightening. No wonder a G5 laptop would be inconcievable.
Most of the time that part of the machine is in the 167-170 f range under heavy load
when the air conditioning is operating and that seems really high to me.
The CPUs are 112-135 usually, sometimes more. If the AC is on and the machine is
not under heavy load it's not too bad.
I can't imagine what a dual 2.7 produces, probably the same but more.

i'm getting 121F on both CPUs (DP2.0 RevB) with the drive bay at 82.4F, disk at 89.6F. I think those are reasonable.

Down here in Texas, we keep our A/C on 24/7 eight months of the year. If our apartment's A/C unit ever broke, I'd be scared to use my PowerMac. I'd probably keep it turned off.
