This is just a wild guess, but I think 10.4.8 might have eaten my RAM.

In fact, I just happened to notice tonight while cleaning up stuff that "About This Mac" only shows 1gb of RAM.

The Powerbook came with 512, and I installed an extra 1gb. Anyone know if the updated OS could be a problem, and if so, how I could test it?

Thanks!

PowerBook + missing memory sounds like the infamous lower memory slot failure.

There's an extended repair program for 15" books with the lower memory slot failure, so do check that out first - I just got the main logic board replaced on mine last week.

Actually, I first noticed that my machine was starting to slow down badly doing stuff that used to come easily. Apparently, from talking to the tech, the memory slot thing is just a symptom; the the logic board failure actually affects more than just that.
