ok i have early 2008 non-unibody Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz 2 gb ram 200 gb hd and i want to maxout the ram to 4 gb or maybe 6 gb ram like i see at macsales or ( OWC ) . I was wondering if anyone here try out the 6 gb upgrade on a MBP like mine or same revision set 2.2 ghz to 2.6 ghz. i know if i go the 6 gb route i'll lose the dual channel goodness but gain 2 more gig but before i order i wanted to see if anyone tried and what the experience was good or bad so let me know if its worth it or how it went thanks and be very detailed about it

Yes it works, but don't pay OWC's 50% markup!

4GB Crucial from Newegg for $116

If you really want 6GB instead of 5GB, grab the 2GB Crucial from Newegg for $24 too.

What does losing the dual channel mean?

Dual channel memory access = interleave your reads/writes across both channels (modules) to get more bandwidth.

Thanks. So it sounds like there is a trade-of between the two.

In principle there is. However most MBP users will not be affected. You can read more about it in the memory sticky.

However, keep in mind that if your MBP is swapping, the performance hit will be orders of magnitude greater than any possible effect form single vs. dual-channel memory. Increasing RAM to prevent/reduce swapping is a no-brainer, even if it ends up reducing memory bandwidth (on your MBP most likely not an issue).
