Back on my trusty Beige G3. I've had this thing forever and I keep ending back on it.

2 more months... then I can get a MacBook Pro. Just 2 months.

Need.... OS... X.... going... through... withdrawal.

Maybe I can find a B&W G3 for free.

Oh well, time to break out Civilizations.

You can put OS X on a beige G3. It will be slow, but still.

Yeah, XPostFacto, but it's really slow. Not gonna even bother.

...You don't need XPF to run OS X on a Beige G3. It's a G3.

You're just limited to Jaguar unless you use XPF.

2 months on OS 9?!?!

I spent 3 months on Tiger on a B&W G3, that was painful and I was only using it for light email and web browsing. I'm about to sell my PowerBook to get a MacBook so will be back to where I was 3 months ago. I'm not looking forward to it.

OS 9 would have rocked if it didn't crash so damned much.

I remember back in the IRC days when people used to ping flood you. All you'd have to do is hold down your mouse button to get a negative ping reply to make them think you got dropped.

Classic was dodgy that way.

No, don't think so, bstone - Linux minimally requires a PMMU.

A classic II has a PMMU. It doesn't have an FPU unit, but the 68030 has a PMMU.

I never used OS9. I didn't return to Macs until errrrrr 2003, I believe.

Question: Can I run ubuntu off of a disc with my PowerBook G4?

So one of my coworkers gave me a 400MHz Gigabit G4.

She said it was broken and wouldn't boot. Turns out that one of her RAM sticks was bad and the HDD is kaput.

I'm gonna swap out the 16MB Rage 128 with maybe a 64MB video card.

So I took the HDD outta my G3 with OS 9.2 andI stuck in 768MBs of RAM from G3 as well. So it's up and running.

I'm gonna snag OS X from work and see how it runs.

This should hold me over until after January, then maybe I can turn it into an iTunes server.

Yay!

OS 9 rocked.

I bet sometime in the future someone's going to clone it but base it on Linux. A new A/UX.

I loved the first Mac OS X server!
