Heh. Accidentally had it on time compensation from the old server's time zone. Don't be worried about the future posts up there

Holy *$%^! This is FAST!

Great! Just when I was starting to get a life, you had to go update the server. Thanks.

Seriously, though. Thanks for the update and all the work the admins and mods have done to keep this place up and running.

Just in case someone missed it on the main page, the new "dual.macnn.com" address is TEMPORARY and will be switched back to newforums.macnn.com probably around midnight today. Technically, newforums.macnn.com already points here, but it may not have updated everywhere yet, and we wanted to just put the forums up as soon as possible, so *shrug*.

In short, don't change your links, since dual.macnn.com will not be the main address by tomorrow.

And yeah, it's running ridiculously fast, and the server isn't breaking a sweat. We'll probably end up putting some more stuff on this machine, though. =)

enjoy!

You know I had to ask.

Well, when???

All this hardware updating going on here... hmmm... money must be involved... can newsfactor be far behind?

I see I had to actually log-in for the first time in ages, and that many posts are missing in the Graphics forum.

We're going to put AI Forums on the machine that our forums are on now (we have an insane amount of free horsepower, so the server will be able to handle it unless forum traffic grows exponentially or something).

Yes, it's coming soon. I'm going to try to get the forums set up soon, but the news page will take a bit longer.

Oh, I get it. It's OK for some to use a Mac forum that's powered by Dual 1GHz Intel Pentium III's but it's not OK for some to actually own a PC with a x86 processor.

It's ok, as long as the comp isn't running windows.

Frankly, as long as we're never actually seeing the machine or the desktop ourselves, and we only interact with it through a Unix shell, what difference does it make? This machine is twice as cheap and twice as fast as the fastest Mac you can buy for these tasks (note that I mean *for these tasks*).

Use the tool relevant to the task, always.

PIII? I would think a mac forum would be on a mac computer or somthing?

<font color = blue> Is it using windows (gasp!) too? </font>

&lt;EDIT&gt;: I should read everything before I post. I guess it is ok if your running linux or something, Still It would look better on our part if you used Mac OS X Server or something?

Running RedHat on the PIII.

No point in wasting good Macs that could be sold to deserving users, eh?

So where are all these spare, fast computers coming from? I thought you weren't putting AI back up becuase you guys at Macnn didn't have a spare comp with enough horsepower...
Actual conversation between UCLA and Stanford during a login on early Internet - U: I'm going to type an L! Did you get an L? S: I got one-one-four. L! U:Did you get the O? S: One-one-seven. U: <types G> S: The computer just crashed.

gorgonzola and parallax: I'm really impressed by the improvements seen in the last few weeks. It sounds like Monish is finally getting out of your way.

I'm looking forward to reading rumors on AI's front page at least as much as to posting on the AI boards again.

We didn't. We bought a new server from this guy (the one we're on now), and because there was a delay getting it he let us host temporarily on another machine he had that was being used for some other accounts. We don't own that one.

So there's really only one new server.

why? the rumor site will be ruined with the new "staff". Not like the rumor site has done anything lately but it seems like this is an effort by a few people who want to take over a rumorsite and exploit it to me. powertrip huh
