Heh, I don't know if there's an easier way to do this, but I'm assuming not.

<font face = "courier">find . | perl -ne 'chop($_); `chflags nouchg "$_"`;'</font>

That'll unlock all of the files in the directory you're in, as well as it's subdirectories. To lock, change the nouchg to uchg.

I just would backup one directory with a cd.. then do
chflags -R nouchg /Directory

I'm pretty sure that works because I used it alot to unlock things in the trash with
sudo chflags -R nouchg /Volumes/Drive/.Trashes
